Chapter 16
(Eva)

It had been five days since Adam had left Eva alone in the woods. Since then she had kept herself locked in her room, ignoring anyone who dared to enter. Mitchell appeared by her side every morning, not saying a word but allowing her to take in his presence. Eva had always avoided his gaze but she knew he would watch her. She could sense his worry as if he were holding it in his hands. She knew he was worried about her but she was not his problem. He needed to focus more on himself rather than trying to get Eva to feel better.

The rain was coming down hard on the fifth morning. Eva stared out window, her leg swinging off the sill. She was wearing Adam's red hoodie, the sleeves covering her finger tips. His scent was still fresh on the hoodie and it made Eva's wolf howl in agony. Just days before she was sleeping in her mates arms and now all she had left of him was his hoodie. She felt pathetic for being so upset over a man she hadn't known very well. Though fate may have destined them to be together Adam seemed to have other ideas. The throne was obviously more important to him than a girl that was supposed to be his world. The thought made tears streak down Eva's cheeks and she angrily wiped them away. She didn't want to cry anymore.

There was a knock on the door and Eva stiffened, hearing it open and close. She glanced over her shoulder, seeing Mitchell take a seat in the chair in the corner. The first thing Eva noticed was that his hair was shorter. It was cut cleanly and it no longer fell in his eyes. Her eyes traveled down to his outfit. He was wearing a tight black shirt with a pair faded jeans. Eva noticed a black tattoo on his bicep, taking a closer look at it. The tattoo was a black, wilted rose. I wonder what it represents. Eva thought, slowly looking back at Mitchell's face.

"How are you doing?" Mitchell asked, leaning forward and resting his elbows on his knees. Eva narrowed her eyes at him and her wolf snarled. Everyday he asked the same question. Eva had never answered but she was starting to get annoyed.

"Stop asking that stupid question. It's getting annoying." Eva growled and Mitchell sighed, rubbing his face in frustration. Eva glared at him. She didn't need him to watch over her. He could be doing other things but instead he was watching over a girl that was emotionally crippled. Eva didn't like people pitying her and Mitchell was doing just that.

"Evan wants to talk to you." Mitchell mumbled, leaning back in the chair. Eva grunted, getting up and padding over to the bed. She crawled onto it and leaned against the headboard, watching Mitchell closely. The boy held her gaze, leaning his chin on his fist.

"Does it look like I care?" Eva snapped, crossing her arms over her chest before adding, "I don't want to talk to him and I'm not leaving this room."

"He is your Alpha, Eva. You have officially been added to the pack and you have to do whatever the Alpha tells you to." Mitchell said through clenched teeth. Eva looked away, not wanting to admit that she knew he was right. She didn't totally understand all of the information about werewolves but she did know about loyalty to an Alpha. Eva was supposed to obey her Alpha without a question and she knew disobeying could mean getting kicked out. There was nowhere else for Eva to go, she needed to stay with the pack for as long as she could.

"I don't care. Now get out and leave me alone." Eva snarled, bringing her gaze back to Mitchell's. He held her gaze, his eyes narrowed in frustration. He was the first to look away, his jaws clenched shut. Mitchell looked like he wanted to say something but he was silent, getting to his feet and leaving the room in a hurry. The door slammed shut behind him and Eva flinched, biting her lip. She knew Mitchell was only trying to help but she didn't want him to pity her.

Sighing Eva crawled off the bed, pulling the sleeves of Adam's hoodie further down. She padded to the door, gripping the handle tightly and pressing her ear against the wood. Everything was silent on the other side and Eva took a deep breath, pushing the door open and peering out. She yelped in surprise when she saw Mitchell leaning on the opposite wall, his arms crossed over his chest. His green eyes were full of amusement and he pushed himself off the wall, nodding his head for her to follow him. Eva growled but followed, trying to ignore his laughs. Mitchell casually flung his arm around her shoulders, giving her a dashing smile. Eva rolled her eyes, shoving him playfully but not making a move to remove his arm from its place. She found it slightly soothing; it was as if he was trying to assure her that he was going to make sure she was alright.
