Chapter 12

(Eva)

Eva stared up at the dark ceiling, wishing she could just go back to bed. She had fallen asleep only to wake up because of the thunder storm outside her window. Adam was asleep beside her, his gentle snoring soothing Eva. He had originally planned on sleeping on the floor but when Eva had told him she was scared of thunder he had been eager to stay in bed with her. The only condition Eva had was no touching her and at first Adam was upset about it. But after giving him her best puppy-dog eyes he agreed and he had kept his promise. It was only now Eva longed for his touch.

Flinching when there was another boom of thunder, Eva rolled onto her side so she was facing her mate. She yelped in surprise when she saw his blue eyes staring back at her, glowing in the darkness of the room. He was up on one elbow staring down at Eva, a curious look in his eyes. Adam reached over, about to touch Eva's face when he froze, seeming to remember something and pulling his hand back. Eva frowned, he wasn't touching her because she had told her to. She wished she had never opened her mouth and let him hold her like he wanted to.

"Why are you still awake?" Adam asked quietly and Eva shrugged, continuing to stare at him. He was shirtless, his shorts hanging low on his hips. Adam had taken off his prosthetic before he got into bed and Eva was amazed he was so comfortable around her already. He already seemed to be in his normal routine.

"I told you, I'm afraid of thunder." Eva mumbled and Adam sighed, sitting up and looking down at Eva. She bit her lip as lightning illuminated the room and the rain crashed harder against the window.

"Why are you afraid of thunder?" Adam questioned as Eva sat up.

"I don't know...it's just a fear I haven't gotten over just yet." Eva admitted, feeling silly. Being afraid of thunder was childish, it was a fear she was supposed to have gotten over when she was you. Eva knew thunder couldn't hurt her but she couldn't help but be afraid every time she heard it rumbling overhead.

"It's a little childish, don't you think?" Adam joked and Eva frowned. She lay back down, turning her back to him. Eva heard him sigh and she felt a warm hand on her bicep. She swatted his hand away, not wanting him to touch her.

"I don't like being made fun of when I open up to someone." Eva snarled, glaring over her shoulder at him. Adam opened his mouth to say something but closed it again, running his fingers through his growing hair. Eva turned back over, feeling the hurt build inside her. When she had told Colton she was afraid of thunder he had done the same thing. He had made fun of her and she felt the same amount of hurt as she did at the moment. She just didn't think Adam, her own mate, would call her fear childish. Eva knew it was childish, that's why she never wanted to tell anyone about it.
