...
Later the same day Caleb, Elise and I were back in the library, this time actually studying. Well, at least I did. Elise was reading some book—which she had been wrenching her way through for days—and Caleb was texting with bathtub-girl. I knew it was her because of the way he giggled every time his phone went off. It was getting annoying.
Caleb finally locked his phone after giggling for what felt like the fortieth time. He said, "Lou," and I looked up, as if he didn't already have my attention. "I'm about to fail calculus because Niall hasn't been absent for three classes and I'm so far behind 'cause he hasn't been helping me." He grinned awkwardly. "Is he feeling any better?"
I looked over at Elise who was still deep down into her book. I sighed. "Uhh—He's alright. He's sleeping a lot but I think—since yesterday—I think he's slowly getting better."
"What happened yesterday?" Caleb asked, flicking through this maths book.
What happened yesterday? Let's see. I fed Niall after three days of starvation, Harry Styles texted me to offer a blowjob, Niall and I speculated over Liam Payne's sexuality and the blonde one finally decided to grow balls and told me to help him get his way around with Elise.
"Nothing." I shrugged. "I don't know." I clenched my jaw while looking at the sandy blonde girl across to me again, desperate to attract her attention. I sighed again before excessively articulating my words to make her notice, "He's been really sad lately, and I've been trying to cheer him up, but it's really hard."
"Do you know why?" said Caleb.
"Nah," I lied, clearing my throat. "He did say something about unanswered love but I don't know what that was about..."
Caleb blinked, finally getting it—and to my advantage, Elise finally looked up from her book. We both watched her reach for her coffee mug to then sip from it. She looked up at us when she notices that all four eyes were on her.
"What?" she asked, dumbfoundedly.
Caleb cleared his throat and pursed his lips before stuttering, "Niall's...s-sad."
She placed her book down. "In what way?"
"He's..." I gulped while rubbing my jaw. Jeez! How was I gonna do this? The idea sounded much more simple in my head when I suggested it to Niall. "Well, there is this girl he likes–"
"Oh my God—Who?!" Her mouth fell agape as she cupped her own cheeks. "Do we know her? Holy hell! We could help him! I could talk to her!" She clapped her hands happily. "How exciting!"
I blinked twice while sinking down in my chair. I dragged my words out, "Yeah...no. That's...not a good idea."
Her face scrunched up. "Why not? I'd love to help him if he's sad."
