Sollux's POV

"Hello?"

"Yes, is this Sollux Captor?"

"Yes."

"I am calling because you are set as the emergency contact for an Aradia Megido."

"Okay..."

"Ms. Megido is currently in surgery at Alternia Hospital. She was hit by an intoxicated driver at around noon today."

"Oh my god..."

"She requested that we call you when she was picked up by the ambulance."\

"I will get there as fast as I can."

Sollux scrambled for his keys and coat and ran out the door of his apartment. The twenty minutes to the hospital was excruciating. It was almost Christmas. Why now? Why any time? He wished he could switch places with her. She didn't deserve this. How could the world be so cruel?

He jerked into the parking lot and raced into the building. The stark walls felt like they were closing in on him as he raced to the front desk.

"Can I help you, sir?"

"I am here for Aradia Megido," Sollux replied, slightly out of breath.

"Are you family?"

"I am her fiance."

"Okay, one second."

Sollux shifted from foot to foot, impatiently.

"She is in room 324 on the third floor. Congratulations on your engagement!"

"T-thank you."

Sollux dashed to the elevator and stood stiffly in silence. When the doors dinged open he stepped quickly into the deserted hall. He quickly found her room, but was stopped by a nurse.

"I am sorry, sir. Ms. Megido is in surgery. I assure you that we will let you know when we have more information on her situation. If you would please wait in the waiting room down the hall."

"O-okay..." Sollux said, shakily.

He was scared. He just wanted to know what was going on. He stalked down the hall and sat down in the waiting room. A elderly woman sat down next to him mere minutes later.

"Hello dear."

"H-Hello."

"Why are you here?"

"My fiance in in surgery."

"Ah what happend? If you don't mind me asking."

"She was in a car accident. I just got here and I have no idea what is going on. I am scared to death," Sollux confided.

"Oh dear! I am so sorry."

"Thank you."

"Let me know if I can get anything for you. I was just wandering around anyway. I am waiting on my grandson to be born, but I don't mind getting you something."

"Thank you. My name is Sollux."

"Nice to meet you, Sollux. I am Rosa. I am sure Porrim will have someone call me, so I will just sit here and keep you company."

"That is very kind of you, Rosa. Thank you."

"You are most welcome."

The two sat in companionable silence for a few minutes. A nurse walked up to Sollux.

"Sollux Captor?"

"Yes?"

"Ah, Ms. Megido is out of surgery. It appears to have gone perfectly. She had a collapsed lung, but is expected to make a full recovery in around a week and a half. She should wake up in thirty minutes or so."

"Thank you."

"I will let you know when she wakes up."

The nurse walked away and Sollux let out a relieved sigh. Rosa pulled him into a hug.

"Every thing will work out for you two. I can feel it."

Sollux hugged her back and smiled slightly.

"Here's my number. Call me if you ever need something," the woman said, handing him a scrap of paper, "I have to go no. My son-in-law just texted me that the baby is almost here."

"Thank you, Rosa. Tell your daughter congratulations for me."

"I will, and congratulations to you on your engagement!"

"Thank you. For everything."

"You are most welcome!"

Rosa stood and walked out of the room after giving Sollux one last hug. He sat alone in the waiting room for probably another thirty minutes before the nurse came back.

"She is awake. Follow me please."

Sollux stood and followed the nurse. They walked to Aradia's room and the nurse opened the door for Sollux. He rushed into the room to see Aradia's pale face look up at him from the crisp sheets. She was never this pale.

"Sollux!"

He rushed to her side and gently took her hand in his.

"Hello my love. I was so worried."

"I am sorry."

"It's not your fault. I am just glad you are going to be okay."

"I'm going to miss Christmas!"

"It's okay we will just have Christmas here," Sollux assured her.

He kissed her palm, softly. He gazed into her russet eyes and mentally thanked what ever being was listening that she was going to be okay.

AN: So I apologize if there is anything wrong with the medical stuff. I know nothing about it. Like at all. I hope you enjoyed it despite that. Also I apologize again for not getting this posted yesterday, I was a bit under the weather. I am feeling a lot better though. So everything should continue on track and I am now going to write today's oneshot.
