Twelve hours had passed since Sonakshi's death and Dev had not even uttered a single word. He couldn't accept the reality that his love was no more in this world and he had lost her- perhaps forever!!
It was only when the cleaner, who had come to clean the hospital room, handed over a letter to Dev, he showed some reaction.
He looked at the white envelope that had his name written on the top, in Sonakshi's handwriting. He slowly opened the neatly folded letter and read-
Dear Dev,
Tumhe yeh letter tab milega jab main jaa chuki hongi. Bohot kuch kehna hai tumse par shayad itna time hi nahiin tha mere paas....
Jab Doctors ne kaha that I have been diagnosed with blood cancer and have very little time left, maine apne baare mein nahiin, tumhaare baare mein socha. Tum mujhe kabhi nahiin chodte, humesha mera saath dete even till the last breath aur yeh tumhe bilkul tod deta...You deserve much better Dev!! Isliye main tumhe apne aapse door karna chahti thi.
Par tumhe sab kuch pata chal gaya aur tum humesha ki tarah zidd karne lage. I had no choice left, but to agree.
Dev, you filled colours into my mundane and boring life. The moments I spent with you are best moments of my life...Thank you so much Dev...ki tum meri life mein aaye. I wish hamari story aage tak jaati....par shayad fate ne hamari story yahiin tak likhi thi.
Par koi baat nahiin....I have no complaints. Jo mujhe chahiye tha tumne usse bohot zyada diya. Saari khusiyaan ke saath saath tumne mujhe ek Dad bhi diye. Mujhe kabhi laga hi nahiin ki Ravindra uncle mere nahiin tumhaare Dad hain.... I had been a fatherless child aur uss khushi ke liye jitna bhi tumhe thanks kahun kam hain....
Bass Dev...the only thing I wish for now, is your success. Rise in life and become a big man....make our parents and teachers proud. Mujhe tumhe aise dekhkar bohot accha lagega.
Aur jab tumhe yeh sab mil jaye, toh ek acchi si ladki ke saath shaadi kar lena. And if you are blessed with a daughter, please uska naam Sonakshi rakhna.....
And, I hope you are not crying while reading this letter...!! Tumhe maa aur uncle ko bhi toh sambhalna hai. Agar tum aise weak ho jaoge toh unka kya hoga??
Am sorry Dev ki main tumhe chod kar chali gayi....please mujhe maaf kar dena aur agar ho sake toh bhool jaana

Tears welled up in his eyes after reading the letter- which was the last piece of work Sonakshi had written and fell down on the sheet, smudging the ink.
But Sonakshi's words rang in his ears. He had to be strong and successful. He had to make Sonakshi proud of him. Determined, he walked out of the hospital glancing at the room for the last time. **************** Dev had requested Asha to allow him perform Sonakshi's last rites. Asha silently nodded and gave her approval. After her daughter's death, she didn't show any emotion. Maybe there wasn't any emotion left inside her....!!
Dev performed all the rituals associated with the last rites, religiously. He felt, that through this manner, he would be able to feel Sonakshi's presence around him
