Chapter 3

After lunch had ended, Dominic went to Biology class. Biology was the one subject he actually found interesting, but he couldn't concentrate that lesson. He was busy thinking about other matters. He couldn't believe he was actually going to fight a de-mon in real life. The rest of the day was fairly uneventful though, and Dominic quickly returned to his relaxed persona. As school ended, he walked out of the gates, his arm around Lavinia's waist. He had promised her that they would go on a date, and he always kept his promises.

They made their way towards the local cinema to watch a movie together. "I think we both already know what movie we're gonna watch" Dominic said with a smile. "Logan", they both said in unison. "Kay, Vi. You go get the tickets and find our seats while I get all the snacks and stuff", Lavinia nodded in agreement then walked towards the ticket counter while Dominic walked towards the food and snack bar.

3 hours later, they both walked out of the cinema in tears. "I just can't believe he's dead!" Dominic sobbed, choking back tears. Lavinia, who was slightly less emotional, had her arm over his shoulder and was comforting him. "Hey, um, at least X-23 and the other kid mutants are gonna make it to the border" she told him, "What would that matter, Eden isn't a real place! There is no safe haven for them". "Aw, Dom, don't cry. You know they're just gonna reboot him again in a few years" she tried to reassure him, "They won't be as good as Hugh, but I guess that's better than nothing" Dominic sniffled as his crying gradually came to an end.

The two of them walked out of the cinema but as they walked through the car park, a small silver car beeped at them. Lavinia looked at the car, then sighed, "It's my sister". She walked over to the car "What are you doing here Ally?", to which Alison replied "Get in loser, we're going home. Mum told me to come get you". "Well, see you tomorrow Dom. I'll snap you when I get home" Lavinia told Dominic, "I'm looking forward to it" Dominic laughed "See ya".

Dominic was walking down a road on his way home, when he noticed someone step out of a side alleyway. He thought nothing of it, as he had never experienced any kind of threat walking this way before. Then, suddenly, a man jumped at him with a knife, "Give me everything, before I cut your throat" he snarled. Dominic, forgetting about his improvised swords in the panic, decided the best course of action was simply to charge straight ahead, barging the man down to the ground. Dominic then ran all the way home, not wanting to get mugged again.

Only when he got home, and stopped running, that he realised he had been stabbed. As he ran through the mugger, he had been cut on his side. Not wanting his parents to know, he rushed straight upstairs when he entered his house. He went straight to his bathroom, stripped, and got in the shower to wash off the blood. Once the cut was clean, he got the family medical kit out and bandaged his torso up, completely covering the wound. After throwing his bloody clothes in the bin, he took two paracetamol pills and went to sleep.

When Dominic woke up in the morning, his cut didn't hurt nearly as badly as the night before, him being a fast healer. He changed his bandages, before completing his morning routine, and going to school. Once again he headed straight for Baby's form room, anxious to tell her about the night before. Once he had relayed the entire story to her, she looked at him like he was the biggest idiot in the world. "What?" "You idiot! You should have killed him!" "What the hell Baby!". Baby sighed, face-palmed, then calmly explained herself "Do you not remember what that angel said to you?" "Um..." "He said 'you will one day see the de-mons as they appear on this earth'. Don't you get it, that mugger was a de-mon!". A slow look of realisation spread across Dominic's face "Ohhh". Baby continued "Also, if a de-mon came after you, that means the de-mons probably know you talked to that angel. Which means-" "More are coming".

They spent the rest of that morning planning what to do if the de-mons attacked, using the internet mostly. Dominic spent the next few hours of classes using a metal file he stole from his dad's tool-shed to ensure his ruler-swords were sharp enough. At lunch time, Dominic and Baby didn't even got to the cafeteria, they went straight to behind the school to practice using their 'weapons'. Baby used a piece of chalk to draw a body shape on a crash mat from the P.E hall. They spent the next half hour slicing, stabbing and throwing their blades at the figure, until they were sure they could properly kill a de-mon in the same way.

After school that day, as Dominic was walking through the halls on his way out, he sensed a strange atmosphere. It was a lot quieter than it usually was, and even though some people were having conversations, there were also many people that weren't. Just silently watching him walk. His instincts told him to grab his swords, which he put in his blazer pockets for convenience. As soon as he brought them out, the first person tackled him. Fairly soon he was at the bottom of a large pile-up. He knew that these were de-mons he had to kill, but he couldn't bring himself to kill them, as they looked just humans.

As they all tried to claw at his face, he noticed a glowing stone fall out of one of their pockets. Feeling like it was the best move, he smashed it on the ground. Instantly, he was no longer surrounded by people. Instead, he was covered with a swarm of small, red, glowing creatures with horns. He had revealed the de-mons. All the practice from his dreams and earlier that day kicked in as he started eliminating the de-mons as quickly as possible. Every de-mon he killed disintegrated into black dust that rapidly disappeared. He just about managed to get onto his feet as Baby ran into the hallway "I heard about a massive fight and I...are those de-mons?!" "Yep, and I could use a little backup" Dominic managed to reply.

Together, they held off the swarms of de-mons coming their way, and they thought they were actually faring pretty well. That was, until even more appeared. They came through the doors, they jumped through the windows, they were everywhere. The two of them were struggling and slowly being overcome. Unknown to him, a larger de-mon was sneaking up behind Dominic. Baby saw it and tried to warn him, but it was too loud and he couldn't hear her. The de-mon got ready to strike him down, then was suddenly hit in the forehead by something flying across the hallway and killed.

Baby looked around to see where it came from, until her eyes caught a tall, pale girl that had blonde hair with blue highlights. The girl was throwing shards of broken glass from the windows at the de-mons, hitting them all directly in the forehead. Baby fought her way through the de-mons towards the girl. "Hey!" she shouted "What's your name?". "Anna!" the girl shouted back, hitting another de-mon in the head, "Oh, like from Frozen!". Anna simply rolled her eyes and replied "Yes".

"Hey there you two, it's nice that we're making friends, but can we focus on killing these things?" Dominic appeared behind the girls. Anna slit her eyes at him but said nothing, just went back to killing the de-mons. Dominic sliced a de-mon through the face, then saw a differently coloured glowing stone fall on to the floor. He picked it up and was about to smash it, but Baby caught his arm. "Give it to me! I think I might know what it's for! Anna, come with me!". Dominic seemed unsure but he handed her the stone and went back to fighting off the de-mons.

Baby and Anna fought their way out of the hallway and outside of the school. Baby was looking around the area in front of the school, "What are you looking for?" Anna asked Baby "The de-mons must be coming from somewhere...there it is!". Baby led Anna over to pulsing red circle in the floor "This must be some kind of portal they're coming through!" Baby exclaimed, "But where does it lead?" "Hell, I assume". Baby held up the stone "I hope this works" and she threw it through the portal. At first, nothing happened. Then the portal started warping violently, and closed up completely. "That means no more new ones, let's go finish off the ones inside". About two hours later, they had killed all the de-mons and cleaned up the debris from the school halls. Dominic addressed the others "Finally, that's all over". Then he collapsed onto the ground.

Dominic woke up about an hour later in a hospital bed, surrounded by people. It was all his friends, including Lavinia. Lavinia was the first one to notice that he was awake, "Oh Dom, you're finally awake!", she leant over and kissed him harder than she ever had before. After she broke away from the kiss, she let everyone else know, "Guys! He's awake!". They all started talking loudly at the same time, saying how happy they were that he was okay.

"Okay guys, I'm happy that you're all here for me, but I've got a headache. So can you please reduce the number of people in here by like 5?" Dominic pleaded "Meaning only Baby can stay. I need to talk to her about something important". Everyone else left, understanding that Baby had a much closer bond with Dominic than the rest of them. "Why exactly am I in here?" Dominic asked Baby, "The fight ripped open your wound from last night and you lost a lot of blood. But you should be okay now" Dominic sighed in understanding and relief. "Baby, that was crazy yesterday. I can't believe we fought off like a whole horde of de-mons. I couldn't have did it without you." "Or Anna, she was incredible!" "Yeah! I can't believe I've never met her before. She seems cool" "Yeah!". Dominic took a deep breath "Baby" "Yeah?" "I've decided...I'm gonna say yes to Gabriel" "The angel?" "Yeah. I'm gonna be a de-mon hunter".
