(Yeah, I know, it's not like in the book. I wanted to use the movie entrance though so I just went with it. Not my smartest choice, but you'll see why in a moment. Enjoy!)
As they entered the darkness of the docks, Nick and Jonny exchanged looks with each other. This didn't feel right at all, not with this darkness around them. Something was wrong. Something bad was going to happen. Alex and Herc felt it to, but that didn't stop Alex from trying to sound really unfazed by this.
"So..." She looked around, her green eyes worrying as the green fire from the torches intensified them and tinted her white-blond hair. "Where's the guy?"
"Uh, I don't know." Nick answered honestly. It wasn't normal for the ferryman to the afterlife not to be there to be there. It added to the creepiness.
""Probably heard you coming and set sail already." Herc said jokingly, getting a joking nudge from Alex. Alex returned the nudge and looked around cautiously. Herc, who's smile slipped off his face, glared down the way. "Something cometh."
Alex gave him a look. "Did you just use old English?"
"Oh shut up." He growled, his hand wrapping around something in his pocket. "Get ready." Nick put his hand on his bracket and tapped it, a shield of bronze morphing from the item easily as he pulled his whip off of his belt. Jonny took out his hammer and readied it on his shoulder to swing if needed.
Not that they needed to.
No way. There was no way... Was that.... No... He didn't... Did he?
Nick stared in disbelief as the darkness around the boat disappeared, revealing the being that was steering it to the docks. Nick dropped his guard and stared in disbelief. "Mr. di Angelo?"
Nico grimaced at the children as he steered the boat into the port, tying the boat so that it did not fall away to the dark depths ahead. "Hello, Nick."
The whole team relaxed, all except for Nick. Herc smiled at the older demigod and laughed. "Man are we glad it's you, Mr. Angelo. We were worried we would have to fight our way through the gate."
"No." Nico said bitterly, readjusting his suit a little. "You will be doing enough of that when you get in. I managed to save you one less fight by taking Charon's place." He looked between all of them and sighed sadly. "I can only do that much as of late."
"You saw her, didn't you." Nico's sad black eyes met with Nicks, tears wanting to brim out from the corners at the mention of his daughter's name. That was all the answer he needed.
"Is she ok?" Alex asked, her eyes growing huge with worry over her best friend. "Is she safe? Did they hurt her? Is she eating at all? Or is she-" Herc threw a hand over her mouth and rolled his eyes.
"Turn off the engine motor mouth." Herc joked, though there was no humor in his voice. Nico sighed, shaking his head.
"She is... more than fine actually." Nick stiffened, his anger rising. "Henry is taking care of her, and she seems... well, it seems she doesn't want to leave."
"Stockholm syndrome." Jonny sighed, rubbing his temple. " Damn guy is good. We should have never stopped to deal with those dragons."
"Your fault for telling us that was a hydra." Alex mumbled. Jonny shot her a glare and she threw her hands in the air. "Surrendering before we start yelling."
"Good." Nico said, running a hand through his greaced up hair. " As for the other questions: yes she's safe. She only got hurt once. She is eating-" Nick's face went pale, catching Nico off guard. "Are you ok, Nick."
