Christmas Eve, a wonderful night full of anticipation for Santa to come, smiles and laughter throughout my home as I smile at my children. I felt my husband's arms wrap around me as I take a sip from my hot chocolate. I lean into his embrace and small at our little ones, Ray and Violet, as they opened up their Christmas pjs before they head off to bed. For only being two and a half years apart, you would think they were actually twins. At times they do almost look identical though Violet was slightly taller than Ray for the time being.
"The Grinch?!" Ray exclaimed as he smiled widely at us. He had always loved How the Grinch Stole Christmas. He always reasoned that it was due to how the Grinch just needed to be understood for everything to be okay which was actually beyond amazing for him to understand with him only being nine years old.
"And Cindy Lou Who?!" Violet exclaimed as she jumped for joy. Though she wasn't much into the movie, she always loved matching her brother when it came to holiday outfits. At least Christmas pjs and Halloween costumes. Somehow they both really enjoyed this bond they had through these different holidays. Unlike most siblings, they didn't really pick on each other or whine about being pairs from a movie. They actually would have thrown a fit if they didn't come from the same movie. We learned that the hard way a few years ago when they ended up as from two different hero worlds, one being DC and the other Marvel. Luckily, their loving father was able to convince them it was okay because in a comic the pair actually teamed up and defeated a nasty villain together. Yup, this is my weird and nerdy family and I couldn't ask for another one.
"You did great, Diana," my husband whispered into my ear. I smiled widely as our little ones rush off to change into their pjs. I turn around and smile widely at him, his glowing sea blue eyes staring right back into my sky greys.
"Well I did have a little help from you, my dear," I grin from ear to ear as I kiss his nose. He just smiled back before leaning down to kiss me lightly on the lips.
"Awh!" I heard Violet coo at us just as Ray came back out and decided to make gagging noises. I let out a giggle as I turn back to them, the pair having a playful fight over if that was cute or gross.
"Off to bed you two! Or Santa won't come," I hear Jason's voice rumble from behind me. He always had a caring tone, even when we first started dating back when he was a Senior in highschool while I was a Junior in college. Don't ask me how we got together, it's a long and complicated story.
"Go quickly! And maybe you two can watch a Christmas movie or two," I suggested. They both jumped with joy as they stumbled over each other to make it to their shared bedroom for the night as known as our spare room for the time being. "I'll go start their movie if you want to go lay down for a bit," I smile at my husband as he nods before heading off to our room. I turn to my children's "room" and set up the small TV we had for them. After a few moments of them deciding on which movie to watch, they finally agreed on, of course, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I swear they will be able to recent every single line from the live action and every song from the animated one before they are in the teen years!
Once they were all settled down, I made my way back to my own room. This was one of the few nights that Jason and I actually had some alone time together but that's what happens when you have two little ones and both work while their at school to be home for them in the evenings. I sigh a bit before opening our bedroom door and smiling to see my giant nerd playing a game on his phone. I had a strong feeling it was something to do with an anime or manga of his. I roll my eyes before walking over to my side of the bed and crawling in.
"You better be ready to wake up when I say, I'm not doing Christmas all on my own this year," I jokingly point at his sides knowing he wasn't ticklish. He cocked an eyebrow at him with a side smirk before pausing his game and setting his phone down.
"Are you really going to start that tonight?" He asks as he pulls me closer to him. I giggle and bit my lip before shaking my head no. Unlike him, I'm highly ticklish and a bit violent when I'm being tickled. That and our "tickle fights", if you can call him tickling me to death a tickle fight, tend to turn into a bit of a heated night. "That's what I thought," he chuckled out and kissed my forehead. "By the way, have I ever let you do a Christmas night alone?" I giggle out a no before curling into his chest.
"And I'm glad you haven't. That's a lot of work for just skinny old me," I joke. I swear he was going to bob me on the head for that comment. Given I'm only 29 and he is 26, I really don't have any room to say anything especially since I'm always told I look about 24-26 or younger at times. That all depends on if you've heard me talk for a while or not though.
"Oh just be quiet and let's get a bit of rest before it's time," he says as he runs his fingers through my short strawberry hair. I sighed in contentment as my eye fall close.
"You do have an alarm set correct?" I inquire sleepily. I hear him muffle a yes as I hear him whisper a goodnight and I love you. "I love you too..." I mumble out before falling asleep to the sound of his heartbeat.
If you made it this far into this story then yay! Now I have a question for you... What are your thoughts? I'm thinking about continuing this as a full on story and I want to know what you all think. I did have one more sentence for this but I didn't want to ruin the Christmas-y feel to it... Yet... If you continue reading after my note then you'll know what I mean. Please let me know either in the comments below or private message me your thoughts. Thank you for reading this and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays everyone!
Who knew that would be the last time I heard it?
Yup... That was the last line... Later my cupcakes and witches!
