Frost covered the cobbles like a blanket.Carol singers filled the streets with hymns. The words reverberating off the windows, yet no one else was singing. There was a juxtaposition of song and silence, a mixture of harmony and discord.Every family had a pile of secrets wrapped in neat bows under the tree, for Kate and Rana it was a secret that was snowballing, gradually building, an unspeakable truth that neither could admit nor deny.

Both Kate and Rana were with their families for Christmas.A pleasant surprise meant Carla was home, she had questioned Kate and grew suspicious but Kate couldn't afford to tell anyone else about her and Rana. Too many people knew:Luke the face of concious and now Michelle the evident robber who could bring their world crashing down with a mere utterance of her lips. No, telling Carla was off the cards, she had too much to lose. She had to let Rana make the decision otherwise, she would risk her altogether. It was killing her inside but Rana meant too much to her.She had made Kate feel something she had never felt before, overcame with a rush everytime their eyes met, it was like their hearts beated as one.As she pulled a Christmas cracker with Aiden at the table, it was apparent Kate's mind was elsewhere. It was in the van with Rana or the Bistro, as in those moments it was them against the world.Kate kept reliving these moments over and over again, desperately clinging on to these fragile memories like a child grasping at snowflakes which quickly dissipated in their hand.

After the Christmas dinner at the Bistro, Kate departed from the group who made a swift and abrupt exit in the direction of the Rovers, whilst she headed back to her flat.Kate was depleted, she knew why of course; it was Rana. Then, like a Christmas present from the Gods, there was a knock on the door.Instantaniously, Kate recognised who it was.The delicate rapping of the frame, her heart was beating tenaciously, echoing the knocking of the door: it was Rana.

A Christmas Miracle.Hurridly, Kate unclasped the door and was greeted with a shivering Rana.Wrapped up head to toe, her lips were as red as holly berries.Clutching something in her other hand, Rana fumblingly uncovered a snippet of mistletoe. She held it above the pair of them."Merry Christmas" she exclaimed, clearly proud of her romantic notion .Without cause or hestistation,
Kate's hand caressed Rana's flushed cheek, igniting within her a fire, a passion which caused all reason to be disregarded. The pair kissed. They did so as if they would never again.Every kiss they shared was filled with desire and love because they both knew that may be true, that they may never kiss again.
