Narrator's POV

Life smiled as he watched the newborn baby boy gurgle in his tired mother's arms, the father smiled happily at his wife and newborn child.

Another child that was no older than five, a girl in blonde pigtails, entered the room happily with an older couple —the grandparents.

The mother, father, baby, child, the grandparents, nor any of the doctors and nurses saw him.

No one did.

"The mother will die within a few minutes, Life." A dark voice said behind him

Except Death.

Life turned around to face Death, green eyes seeking out red, "I know, buts it's a shame, Death, she'll never see her children grow up."

The pair only focused on each other, but around them the heart monitor connected to the mother flatlined, the medical professionals quickly got to work to attempt to save her.

But it was for naught, she was gone, taken by Death.

The family cried around them as the doctors and nurses sadly left the room.

"It's a familiar story isn't it, Death, like our own: a mother died to save her child." Life commented

"I wouldn't remember, Life, I don't even remember my human name." Death replied, pulling Life into an embrace

"Nor I." Life added, his head resting on Death's chest

Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort were no more, Life and Death took their places.

The pair disappeared from where they were in the modern hospital in 2018 to a random battle in 1864 during America's Civil War.

Soldiers fought and died around them but paid no heed, simply walking around.

Life was not needed at the moment, but Death was everywhere here.

"Do you ever think about our human lives, Death?" Life asked

"No, not that I remember it anyways. All I remember is that we somehow got the three Deathly Hollows in one place and that back then we hated each other because of a prophecy, Life." Death responded, walking through the bloody field with Life's fingers laced with his own

"Yeah, its better how we are now. But I can't help but wonder, Death, I also see glimpses lots of red hair and and a pile of books." Life told Death

"Your old friends, I suppose." Death replied, weaving their way through the injured and corpses but never losing Life's hand

"Don't you ever wish we could go rewatch our old lives, Death?" Life asked

Death stopped in his tracks, "We can't change anything that happened, so what's the point?"

"Nothing, I just want to remember what I was." Life answered

"I prefer it how it is now, just me and you forever." Death replied, softly kissing Life's lips

Life kissed back while the world continued around them.

Life slowly pulled away while running his fingers through Death's soft brown hair and looked into his blood red eyes, "I do too, but don't you ever want to know why we hated each other because of that prophecy. What did it say?"

"I don't know, Life, but I believe it wasn't pleasant. After all, do you know what happens when Life and Death fall in love?" Death asked

"Both chaos and harmony at the same time." Life answered, tracing his right pointer finger along Death's jaw

"Fine, Life, we can go back. We would have to eventually anyways to collect and distribute the souls." Death said

Life and Death went everywhere together: where there was Death, there was Life; where there was Life, there was Death.

They belonged only to each other in their semi-existence.

Death was handsome —Life certainly thought so— with his smooth dark chocolate hair, red eyes, ghost white skin.

He wore a simple black suit and tie with black shoes.

Life was adorable —in Death's opinion— with his feminine body, messy black hair, green eyes, and pale skin.

He wore a lace covered white dress and a white flower crown with brown sandals that tied up his slender legs,

They have had their responsibilities for thousands of years, constantly going back and forth throughout time, collecting and distributing souls among the mortals.

They could see each other but no one else could.

Some would call their semi-existence lonely, but they enjoyed it.

For as long as they cared to remember, they had also been in love.

Here is the tale of how Harry James Potter and Tom Marvolo Riddle became Life and Death.
