AU: Tom Riddle is a patient in Hogwarts Institute and he has been there for the past 8 years.

The reason he was in the institution was murdering his parents and his babysitter when he was 10, and he was placed in the not house because he was diagnosed as insane.

The reason he killed them besides being bored and angry at them? They were trying to keep him away from his —at least in his mind— soulmate Harry Potter."

Narrator's POV

Dr. Dumbledore rushed out of the mental hospital, hurrying to call the police as he ran to his car and floored it out of Little Hangleton to Godric's Hallow.

After the police were called, he called the Potters, telling them that he needed to talk to them and their son impersonation immediately.

An hour and a half later, he pulled into their driveway, the abandoned Riddle House across the street, and Harry answered the door.

After polite greeting, Albus sat down on his chair, "Harry, how much do you remember of Tom?"

Harry bit his lip, deeply thinking, "Not much, just that we were friends and that he killed his parents and babysitter."

"I'll refresh your memory." Dumbledore said, "His parents were not happily married, having been arranged to marry each other, so they were rarely home together much less home with their child. And, since they had wealth, they didn't want their ignored son to befriends with anyone poor so Tom had no friends and the school children labeled him a 'freak'. In his loneliness, he turned to torturing animals to death, apparently having a knack for getting them to obey him and not run from him even as he killed them. Eventually, you and your family moved here and you befriended your neighbor and your friendship was Tom's dream come true, and he quickly became obsessed with you. So obsessed that he killed his parents and babysitter when they denied him access to you. Now, eight years later, he is still just as obsessed with you as ever and he has broken out of the Institution, and I know he's coming to get you."

"What can we do?" Lily asked

"The police chief has promised to send a couple officers to follow Harry whenever he leaves home and to stand guard outside when he is home until we catch Tom." Dumbledore answered

Two days later, Harry woke up and hummed 'Happy Birthday' to himself as he did his morning routine, already knowing his parents had left for work.

Harry dressed for the day and went down for the kitchen, not noticing his parent's corpses still in bed as he walked down the hallway.

Harry made some toast, not seeing the officers bodies in the front hard as he put on the tv, excited to spend the day celebrating his 18th birthday as an adult.

After eating, he went back to his room to grab his wallet and keys, seeing a familiar stranger sitting in his bed.

Harry nearly screamed when he saw him, "T-Tom?"

"I'm here." Tom smiled, his voice cracked from almost a year of no use

That's when Harry noticed the bloody kitchen knife sitting on the bed next to Tom, "Tom what did you do?"

Tom said nothing, getting closer to Harry with a smile on his face, "I missed you, my love. Did they keep you from me?"

Harry tried to run, getting tackled by Tom, "Where are you going? I'm here again."

"Get off of me, psycho!" Harry shouted, trying to get free

Tom felt betrayed, still keeping a tight hold as he made Harry pass out, his love was just confused, right?

When Harry woke up, he was lying on a dusty bed, Tom sitting on the bed beside him, cuddled against him like a sloth to a tree.

Tom kissed his cheek, "Why didn't you visit me?"

Harry gulped, not knowing what to say to not be killed.

Tom whimpered, smacking his own head to get the voices to shut up, "Shut up. Shut up."

Harry didn't know what to do, he was a kind soul but Tom was a basket-case.

Harry tried to get up, but Tom held him against the bed like an over-sized teddy bear, whispering, "I love you."

Instantly, Harry had flashbacks to his tenth birthday party.

Harry sat at the table, Tom sitting next to him while the other kids played on the bouncy house, Tom pulled his present to Harry out of the pile, placing the box on the smaller male's lap.

"Harry, I love you." Tom admitted, holding Harry's hands in his own

"I love you, too, you're my best friend." Harry smiled, playing with the bow

"No, I love you like like love." Tom said, "You're the only person I care about and you're the only person that cares about me."

"Tom, what's going on?" Harry asked, noticing Tom's strange behavior as police kicked open the door and stormed in for the child killer

Harry shook his head, "What?"

"I love you, Harry." Tom said, "And now we can be together forever."

"Tom, you have to go back to the Institution." Harry calmly said

"Why? I just got back to you." Tom asked

"I know, but you need help, Tom, you're a killer." Harry lightly said, trying to hold back tears at the thoughts that his parents were dead

"I don't want to go back, I want you." Tom said

"What if I promise to visit you everyday if you go back?" Harry asked

"Noooo, stay together." Tom whined, clutching him

Harry shakily pressed a kiss to Tom's forehead, knowing if he tried to escape Tom would kill more until they were back together, so he wanted to prevent more death even if it meant sacrificing his freedom, "And we will, I'll spend almost every moment with you."

Tom purred happily, pressing their lips together for the first time, "Do you love me?"

Harry didn't know, he was getting memories back of their time together, "Yes."

Three weeks later, Dr. Dumbledore walked through Hogwarts Institution, walking to Tom's room.

He opened the door and found Harry lying on Tom's bed, Tom cuddled on top of him, in between his legs, talking quietly and they cuddled.

"Tom, are you willing to talk today?" Dumbledore asked

Tom looking down to Harry, seeing Harry nod to him, "Yes."
