A/N: Imagine Peter's singing is Tom and Bailey's is Harry.

AU: The Grim Reaper exists, but he is two people, two people who call themselves Voldemort and Mercy. Every religion is wrong, there are multiple afterlives: a garden of play for those who died as children and teenagers; a paradise beyond imagination for adults who led good lives; and and a cave that never ends and is filled with creatures of nightmares at every turn for those who were evil.

In a small English town of Spinner's End, a murderer arises who kills small children, no younger than ten, and discards the corpses like trash. That does not sit well with Mother and Father Death.

Narrator's POV

Over his millions of years of existence, Mercy never hated it as much as he did right now.

You see, right now, he was stopping the spirit a five year old girl from seeing her mangled corpse.

Said girl, whose name was Eden, was crying, "Where's my mum? I want my mummy."

Mercy felt tears spring to his eyes, he always hated when he had to guide the spirit of a child to rest, hating that he already had a routine of how to handle this, "I don't know, honey, would you like to go play until we can find her?"

Eden wiped her eyes with her sleeves, "Play?"

"Yes, and there's lots of toys and books and games." Mercy replied, taking her much smaller hand in his own and began to lead her down the street to the park

Once they were at the park, he went to the center, where they found the Hanging Tree, every town has one even if the living have forgotten it, and it was how the Deaths led the recent dead to rest or, in some cases, punishment.

They stepped into the tree, the bark giving away to reveal a beautiful and endless meadow, filled with dozens of other children, ranging from newborns to eighteen year olds, all playing with each other or entertaining themselves.

Almost immediately after entering the meadow, Eden hugged Harry's waist and ran off to play.

Among the children inside the largest of the dozens of cabins, he found Voldemort, reading a story to a group of younger children.

Both Deaths loved spending time with the children, they were so innocent and pure, even nicknaming him "Muma" and Voldemort "Papa".

When Voldemort noticed Mercy's arrival, he told the children that they would continue the story later and they went back to play.

Voldemort recognized the sadness in Mercy's eyes, "The call was for a child wasn't it?"

Mercy nodded, even after all this time each call for the death of a child he answered felt like the first.

Voldemort hugged his companion, pressing a comforting kiss to the top of his head, "Was it in Spinner's End again?"

Mercy nodded again, feeling some of the children hug his legs and tried to comfort him.

The smaller Death thanked the children and ruffled their hair, he was fond of all the children he'd, he knew them all by name —anyone with a repeat name had a unique nickname— and he wondered around to check up on them.

Everything was as usual: the babies were sleeping peacefully in their cabin, the littler children were playing together in their cabins, the modern-age children were mostly in the game room and the old world children tended to be in the library —of  course, the groups mixed together and played together all the time.

Cabin was a loose term, from the outside, the cabins looked like any you would see at a camp, but from the inside they were modern with heating, cooling and other amenities.

Mercy felt another call summon him, but it seemed Voldemort answered it first so he remained with the children.

Voldemort found himself in Spinner's End, inside of a abandoned home where he saw not one, but seven spirits of children; the murderer was raising his kill count from ten to twenty.

The children were crying, unfortunately they had seen each other being murdered so they were aware of what happened to them

"Follow, sweet children, I'll show thee the way into a land of enchantment. Weep not, poor children, life is this way: murdering beauty and passion." Voldemort softly said, holding out his hands

The children took his hands and the other five took the others hands as they walked to the Hanging Tree, "Come, little children, the times come to play here in my garden of shadows."

Almost immediately after taking the seven children to rest, he was called again, thought thankfully not to Spinner's End but to a small German town.

***

Mercy stood in the old people's home, trying to lead a man out to the Hanging Tree to go to rest.

"Follow me, Patrick, through all the pain and the sorrow." Mercy kindly said, holding out his hand, "Its time to rest."

"Will Jules be there?" Patrick asked, missing his wife who had passed a few years prior

"She will, waiting for you in paradise." Mercy promised, Patrick taking his hand and going to the tree

They went through the tree and arrived in a small home, every adult' afterlife was shared it was almost like they never left the living but there was no work, no money, no fighting, just peace.

Mercy than went back to the Meadow of Play, seeing Voldemort lead in a group of seven children, they needed to stop the killer.
