There was a light knock on my office door. I lifted my head from the computer screen, blinking rapidly to try to clear the numbers that swam across my vision. I'd been working on our monthly budget for hours the figures were etched into my brain. As much as I loved catching up with Cole last week it had put me behind at work. If it wasn't for Melody and Destiny handling things on the front end who knows how far behind I would have gotten. I wouldn't change a thing though being with him made me feel like a kid again.
Rolling my neck between my shoulder blades, I called, "Come in."
Cole poked his head into my office. "Surprise."
I couldn't help but notice how great he looked in his black t-shirt and jeans as he came into my office. I licked my lips, my mouth suddenly dry. "What are you doing here?"
"Good morning," he grinned. Walking in, he settled into one of the chairs in front of my desk. "I came to see my favorite girl in Mckenzie, Michigan."
I couldn't ignore the way my heart fluttered at hearing that I was his favorite anything. I laughed, leaning back in my seat. "Really, what do I owe the pleasure?"
The smile didn't drop from his face as he said, "I'm here to help."
"With?" All of the conversations we had over the last week played through my head. Had I asked for his help with something? If I did surely I would have remembered it.
"The baby shower, of course."
"You're here to help me with Trish's baby shower," I asked in disbelief. It was only when he pulled out his laptop and tablet that I noted how serious he was. "Cole, I can handle planning the baby shower. You've already helped more than enough."
Hosting the party at his house was a brilliant idea on its own, and not to mention an affordable one. I couldn't ask for much else.
"No, I said I would help you with whatever you needed and I meant it." He opened his laptop. "I don't have anything else to do anyway, so use me how you please."
Again, I asked, "You're sure you don't have anything else to do?" It wasn't that I thought Cole was incapable of helping it was that I couldn't understand why he would want to. I mean how many men, celebrity or not, are chomping at the bit to plan a baby shower. By my count, he might be the only one.
"Jamie, I am sure," he promised. "Remember all those school dances I used to help you with? It will be just like that."
I dragged my bottom lip between my teeth. We did make a great team back in the day, especially when other members of the student council got flakey. Cole was always there to step in and help out. I sighed, relenting to his request. "If you insist."
I could use the extra help especially with things being so last minute. The name Cole Walters holds more weight than Jamie Anderson these days it might inspire some people to get things into gear.
His face lit up as he turned on his laptop. "I am at your service."
"Okay, let's start with decorations."

"So he's going to be working here?" Melody asked, "With us?"
"Yes, he is." I sprayed the front door with glass cleaner coughing as I inhaled more than what got on the actual door. There's a great big handle across the front of the door you would think people would use it instead of getting their grubby little fingerprints all over the glass. "It will only be for a week or two while we plan Trish's baby shower. Then things will go back to normal."
"And he has to come here to help you?" asked Destiny.
"He wants to come here. Do you have a problem with us working out of my office?" I would have thought she would be more excited considering she's the president of the Cole Walters Fan Club.
