Moving on (Waterloo Road)

Chapter 13

The weekend went by and all three of them decorated the spare room and got to know each other; on Monday morning, Rachel got up and dressed with her hair styled before going into the kitchen where Nikki was sat up to the table, dressed and eating breakfast. Rachel got herself a cup of coffee and some toast before sitting with Nikki as they looked at each other.

"You're up early; how did you sleep?"

"Okay, i guess"

"You dont have to come in today"

"I need to keep busy, especially this week"

"I know" she agreed as she sighed. "Do you need anything?"

"I'm fine; i just want Wednesday to be over with"

"It's gonna be okay; i'll be there"

Nikki nodded.

"You want a lift to school?"

"Thanks"

"I have to leave soon, staff meeting"

"Okay"

"You got everything?"

"Yeah"

"What about your lunch?"

"I've got money"

"You sure?"

"Yeah"

"Okay, i'll give you ten minutes."

Rachel took her drink and went into the living room; a little while later, they were sat in her office. They both looked up as there was a knock on the door and Kim entered.

"Sorry, am i interrupting?"

"Not at all"

"I'm gonna find Ros and Chlo" Nikki said as she picked up her bag and stood up.

"Okay, come and find me later, yeah?"

"I will"

As Nikki left, Kim sat opposite Rachel as she looked at her.

"Is she okay?" Kim asked.

"She will be; there's something i need to tell you though before staff meeting"

"Go on"

"She's my niece; my mom and dad adopted Lucy when we were ten. Nikki hasnt known me properly but with what's going on, she needs all the family and support she can get"

"Wow"

"Only you know and thats the way i wanna keep it for now"

"My lips are sealed"

"She's also living with me; she needed to get away from the house. So any problems, i wanna know first"

"No problem"

"Thanks; are you okay to keep an eye on things here on Wednesday?"

"Course"

"I cant believe it's nearly the end of term already; so much has happened over the last six months. Next week and then just a term left"

"You certainly could do with it" Kim agreed.

"Yeah, i could"

"You want me to handle the staff meeting?" She offered.

"No, its okay; i'll be there in a minute"

Kim left as Rachel sighed; she put her head in her hands and shut her eyes.
