Fifteen

Rachel's PoV

Do you ever have one of those days where you just think that today is gonna a great day?

Like everything is gonna be great and nothing can ruin your mood.

Well today is one of those days.

It's almost half nine in the morning and the kids are still sleeping. Amazing, isn't it? There's not a sound throughout the entire house.

I grabbed my phone off the nightstand and I turned it on to see I had a text from Conor half an hour ago.

Conor; I took the kids out for breakfast and I'm bringing them to the park afterwards to meet my parents. We'll be back for supper. Enjoy your lie in. You deserve it.

I smiled at the text and closed my phone. I got out of bed and walked out of the room and downstairs. I nearly jumped out of my skin when I saw mama and Jill sitting in the kitchen reading the paper. I walked over to mama and kissed her temple and then kissed Jill's cheek.

"So misses, what's on your agenda for today?"
"Well Conor has the kids for the day so I thought we'd go on a shopping spree if you'd like?"
"Oh definitely! Let's go! We can have breakfast there."

I chuckled as Jill jumped up from her seat and sprinted out of the room. Mama shook her head and stood up as she shouted after her.

"Wake up the others!"
"I better get changed."

As I turned to leave mama grabbed my wrist. I looked at her in confusion and she motioned for me to sit down. I did and she reached over and placed her hands in mine.

"What's wrong? You're not dying are you?"

She looked away from me and smiled softly. She turned back to me and chuckled quietly.

"No. I'm not dying and I'm not sick or anything like that. I just have to talk to you about something, someone."
"Ma-"
"Don't ma me. You need to explain as to why he is still here Rach! It's not fair on you and the kids because you'll all end up heartbroken like before. And it's not fair to Lucy. And before you interject, you need to understand that just because you denied her proposal, it doesn't mean to you two aren't broken up."

I looked away from hit and bit on my lip, hard. Mama squeezed my hand and I looked back at her as she frowned. She brought her hand up to my cheek and stroked it gently as I leaned into her touch.

"I know you don't this but tonight, at midnight, you need to figure out who'll be kissing. Will it be Conor and destroy your relationship with Lucy forever or will you hang on to the hope that she'll fly over to be with you? Whatever you choose, just know that I'll forever be proud of you and love you no matter what."

She stood up and leaned over to kiss my forehead gently. She walked out of the kitchen and I heard her walk up the stairs. I looked at the wall and shut my eyes tight and sighed.

What am I going to do?

(after the trip to the mall and 20 minutes to midnight)

"Man, it doesn't feel like there's only 20 minutes left in 2017."
"It's been one heck of a year."

I looked around the decking as everyone was talking to one another while drinking their hot chocolate. I saw Conor leaning against the railing away from everyone else. I stood up and walked over to him.

I stood next to him but I face the house while he faced the lights of the city. He turned his head to look at me and smiled as he leaned forward and kissed my temple.

"So, what's going to happen between us? Are you going to stay or leave again?"
"I'm staying. For good this time. I found a great house a few blocks from here. I'm moving in next week but it'll be another few weeks before I can have the kids stay. I just need it be baby proofed first."

I chuckled and smiled up at him. He turned around and wrapped his arm around my shoulder and I leaned into his touch. We both looked towards the girls and smiled when we saw Bree wide awake on Jill's lap as she played with her toys. Jack as falling asleep against mama as she stroked his hair subconsciously as she talked to Izzy and Megan.

"You've done a great job with them. They're really are amazing Rach."
"Yeah, well I didn't do it alone. Lucy has been a great help and so have the girls. And now that you're back, I know you'll be a great father to them."
"I promise you I will."
"One minute guys."

We walked over to the girls as they watched the outdoor tv. Conor sat next to mama and Jack into his arms. Jill kept Bree but Izzy was by her side in an instinct. Mama stood up and walked over to me as I stood away from them.

"I really thought she'd come. So much for fairytales coming true."
"Don't give up yet. She still has thirty seconds."

She kissed my cheek and walked back to the girls. I sighed and ran my hand through my hair.

"10 seconds guys."

I was just about to walk over to them when I felt someone grab my wrist. I turned and gasped when I saw her breathing hard.

"W-what are you doing here?"
"Something I should've done sooner."

Lucy got down on one knee and opened a black box with a ring inside it. She looked up at me and smiled sheepishly.

"Rachel Morgan- Press, will you do me the honour and marry me?"
"Two!"
"One!"
"HAPPY NEW YEAR!"

I nodded my head vigorously and felt the tears stream down my face. She stood up and put the ring on my finger, again. Lucy leaned in and kissed me with every ounce of love I could feel. She wrapped her arms around my waist and I wrapped mine around her neck. I felt her smile into kiss as everyone cheered. I pulled away from her slowly with my eyes still closed and our foreheads against each other. 

"Happy new year fiancée."
"Happy new year fiancée."
