Many Years Later
Lucy's POV
Well, I must say. Today has been a lone time coming and it's just as magical and perfect as I expected. Who can blame me? Have you seen my wife?Yeah that's right. My wife. Rach is out on the dance floor with the kids and most of the girls. We decided to wait for the kids to be a bit older before tying the knot so we could enjoy it together, as a family but things were hectic for a while before we could actually do it.
I looked down at the bundle of joy in my arms and smiled. Odhran Campbell, poor Americans trying to pronounce that name. Megan's newest addition to our mad family. He's sound asleep in my arms as our loved ones as dancing to their hearts content.
"You know Bronze, I gotta hand it to you. You got yourself one beautiful family. I'm proud of you."
I turned to face Alex and she smiled at me. She patted my leg and stood up and walked out to the girls. I looked over towards them smiled when I saw Bree laughing while dancing with Jill.
I looked around for jack but didn't see him anywhere. For an 18 year old, he has the personality of an 80 year old man and thinks he's older. I stood up carefully with Odhran in my arms and walked out of the hall. I walked out to reception and the receptionist smiled at me.
"Mrs Bronze, what can I do for you?"
"I'm looking for my son. You haven't happen to see him by any chance?"
"Actually I have. He's outside by the pool looking up at the stars. I have one of the security guards keeping an eye on him just in case."
"Thank you."She smiled and bowed her head. I walked out to the pool area and sure enough Jack was laying on the grass by the pool looking up at the stars. I made my way towards him and laid next to him and carefully placed Odhran on my chest.
"Hi buddy."
"Hi mum."Yeah, he started calling me mum after I moved in. Made my year. My heart still clenches every time I hear it.
"What are you doing out here alone?"
"Just thinking."
"Penny for your thoughts?"
"I want to move."
"Move what kid?"
"Everything mum. Schools, clubs, house, city. Country at this point."
"Jack what's going on with you lately? Ever since you started high school you've been distant and moody and have a terrible attitude towards your mother and I."
"You're what's wrong. You, mom, dad, everyone inside that room. Every single one of you are famous soccer players who changed the world. I'm sick of being compared to all of you guys and expected to be just as great as you. Do you know how many times in a period of one class that people ask me for a signed autograph? 10 times mum. I don't want you to give a lecture on how you can't change it because I honestly don't give a shit. Not anymore. I'm done."
"Jack O'Brien! Get your sassy arse back into that party right this second before you have to deal with Jill and Steph."I looked towards Megan as she glared at Jack. He immediately shot up and sprinted inside without a glance towards us. I stood up carefully and she took Odhran off me while I clean down my dress.
"We'll have a chat with him tomorrow about everything."
"Yeah, I think that's best."We walked back into the party and everyone was still dancing. Jack sitting at his chair staring off into space as a single tear streamed down his face. I looked towards Ashlyn and she looked at me worryingly. She nudged Hope and Becky and the three of them made their way over to him.
I felt someone hug me from the side and smiled softly when I smelled her perfume. I wrapped my arms around Rach and kissed her forehead softly.
"What's wrong with Jack?"
"He's just going through a phase. We'll talk to him about it later on after everything settles down around the house."-------------------------------- 2 days after the wedding -------------------------
Jack's POV
Things at home is intense. Bree is trying her best to get me to talk to our moms but it's not happening. I meant what I said about hating being a part of their world's. It's not my scene and all these expectations are a pain in my arse especially after finding out I'm adopted a few days ago. Do I regret what I said? Yes. Could it have waited until a better time? Of course but I snapped. I was going to eventually and it just so happened to be at mum and not mom, who's usually the one to give out to me about this stuff.
I looked around the cafeteria for a free table and there was one at the far end, thank god. I looked down at my tray of food as I made my way towards it. I set my tray on the table and pulled out my chair and sat down. Talking turned to whispering but I did my best to ignore it until I heard the chairs next of me move. I lifted my head to see aunt Hope, granny Chris and grandma Steph. I looked around the place in shock and saw everyone looking at us.
"What are you guys doing here?"
"Taking you home. You're in trouble little man."I gulped as Hope stared at me as if she's daring me to disagree. I nodded and stood up. I followed them out of the school and towards the car. I got into the next to grandma Steph. She took my hand into hers and squeezed it tightly. I looked towards her and she smiled softly. She leaned forward and kissed my forehead.
"Everything's going to be okay."
We pulled up in front of the house and we all got out. I gasped when I saw Dad was standing by the door with his arms crossed over his chest. I hadn't seen his in nearly a year because he joined the army. I jumped out of the car and ran to him. He waked down the steps and I jumped onto him. He grunted but held his ground and held onto me tightly.
"Oh, what have you done now buddy?"
"Any chance you can save me from this one?"
"Nope. You're all on your own but I'll be there for you afterwards."I nodded my head against his chest and I felt him sigh. He squeezed me tighter and kissed the top of my head. We walked up the steps and into the house. He led me into the living room and I froze on the spot. Everyone was there and I mean everyone. Mom, mum, Grandma Steph, Chris and Alex, Grandpa Stephen and Serv, aunt Hope, Ashlyn, Ali, Kelley, Becky, Carli, Jill, Megan, Izzy and KB. Great. Just great.
I looked towards mom but she wouldn't meet my eye. Dad squeezed my shoulder before moving across the room and sit on the sofa next to mom. She finally looked up at me and all I saw was pain and sadness and it just angered me.
"Why did you call them all? It's none of their business."
"Yes it is. They're family."
"No they're not. They never have been."
"What are you on about? They always have."I felt a tear fall down my cheek and I felt my lip tremble. Dad stood up but I put my hand up motioning him to stop. I lifted my other hand and wiped my tears away and I looked between him and mom, who was now by his side.
"Jack, what's the matter?"
"I trusted you. I trusted all of you. And not once did any of you think about telling me the truth. Do you have any idea how it feels to lied to your whole entire life only to find out by mistake?"
"We never lied to you Jack. None of us did."
"Then why didn't any of you tell me I was adopted? You know what, never mind. I don't want to know. Wha's the point when I don't know if you'll tell me the truth."The room went silent but I could practically hear all the machine's turning in their heads. I turned my head to look at aunt Jill and she looked at me sadly. I looked towards mom and dad and they walked towards me.
"Don't bother."
I turned and walked out of the room. I grabbed my car keys off the rack and walked out of the house slamming the front door behind me. I got in the car and reversed out of the driveway and took off down the road. I saw dad in my rearview mirror as I drove but it only made me drive faster.
