Bus Ride

I sit in the back seat of the bus starring out the window. The fumes from the bus float into the bus and fill my nose and mouth. I cover my mouth with my hands and cough. Why does gas smell so bad?
Out of the corner of my eye I see someone trudge to the back of the bus and sit down on the seat next to me. Why do people do that? The bus is empty! There are all these other seats that you could sit in but of course you choose to sit right next to me. I would only let my friends do that and of course OH MY GOD BAILEY! My face goes bright red. I can see him out if the corner of my eye starring at me. Okay, this is acceptable, I'm fine with him sitting next to me. Great actually.

"Hey," he says.

"Um, hey," I reply. My voice sounds strangled and nervous and he laughs at me.

"What's wrong?" he grins.

I look down flustered, "It's just," I stutter, "You know, we've never really talked before. I don't really know you."

He raises an eyebrow, "We could get to know each other. How does that sound?"

I laugh sheepishly, "Yeah, we could do that."

We spend the rest of the bus ride talking  and getting to know each other. My stop arrives and I stand up and say goodbye to him and walk off of the bus. When I turn around I see Bailey hopping off the bus after me.

"What are you doing?" I ask, "You don't live near here."

"I know. I just thought that I could keep you company for the walk home. If thats okay with you?"

I blush, "Yeah thats okay with me."

We walk in silence for a bit.

"So why are you all of a sudden talking to me?" I ask, "I mean we've never exchanged a word before you said hi to me in science and this is the first time we have has a proper conversation."

"Well, when I bumped into you at lunch that time you seemed kinda cute so I just wanted to get to know you."

"Oh so it had nothing to do with my personality?" I joke.

"No, no thats not what I'm saying, you seem really sweet. I love your personality."

"Thanks," I smile.

He turns to me suddenly and grabs my arm lightly. His nose is inches from mine. I can feel his hot breath on my face. With his other hand he tucks a strand of my hair behind my ear. Suddenly I feel his lips on mine. I am so stunned I just stand there like an idiot. He opens his eyes slightly and sees my stunned face and pulls back.

"I...I...I'm sorry," he stutters, "I should have asked you first, that was in-"

I cut him off by pressing my lips against his. I pull away and see a huge smile on his face. I smile back and start walking. He stays where he is and and waves at me.

"See you tomorrow Emma," he calls out.

"Yeah, see you."

As I walk away I think back to that night on the roof of my house starring at the stars. Did all of this happen because of that one night?
