"Come on Arabella, we have to go to Pandemonium tonight. It's punk night, my favorite music of all time is playing!" My best friend Sage begged.
"I'm always down for a party, but you know I hate that place." I argued.
"Arabella. We are going to Pandemonium, and that is final." She stated.
With a groan, I stood up and walked to my closet to find an outfit for that night. I suppose I had no other choice, considering she came to my house already dressed for a club.
I chose black jeans with a black mesh top and a black bralette underneath.
"You look hot as hell." Sage laughed.
"So do you, as always."
Sage is absolutely gorgeous. Blue eyes, long blonde hair, tall, the epitome of beauty.
I'm kind of just different than her.Brown hair, brown eyes. Average height.
"Are you ready to get going? The club is probably getting packed as we speak."
"Yeah just let me grab my phone and shoes. I'll meet you outside." I smiled.
As she walked down the stairs, I took one last look in the mirror. I knew I looked good. The thing is, I just didn't look like myself. I sighed. I laced up my boots and went out to the car.
The ride to Pandemonium was short, maybe about 5 minutes. Sage parked down the street, as there was never anywhere super close to park. We walked to the club and flashed the bouncer our fake IDs. He nodded. Sage and I shot each other a look of satisfaction.
"I'll get us some warm up drinks, you find us somewhere to sit?" I smirked.
Sage nodded and walked in the opposite direction. As I was walking to the bar, I ran into the one and only Magnus Bane.
"Magnus!" I shouted as I ran up to him and pulled him into a hug.
"Arabella Ravenhart, always a pleasure." He smiled as he hugged me back, "what brings you here?"
"I am just here with my friend Sage actually."
"The mundane?" He questioned.
"Yes. I haven't thanked you in a while for what you've been doing for me, by the way. In fact, I haven't seen you in a few years. Thank you, Magnus."
"I care about you Arabella, and you know I would do anything to protect you. On a bit of a lighter note, how's the love life been?" He wiggled his eyebrows.
I groaned, "barely existent. I bet you are keeping yours interesting. Have you got your eye on anyone specific?"
He smirked, "I have been eyeing a certain shadowhunter, but you know I do not kiss and tell."
"Yes you do. Who is it?" I insisted.
"Fine. His name is Al-"
"Magnus, I need your help," a female voice interrupted, "it's Alec."
I looked over to see a girl with bright orange hair and runes, a shadowhunter. However, I had never met her.
"Sorry Arabella, we will continue this another time. What is it Clary?"
I turned away, but still listened to the conversation.
"Alec went on a mission and didn't come back. Jace tried to track him, but he couldn't find him. Isabelle is worried sick." The redhead said.
"Let's go to the institute, I'll see what I can do." Magnus instructed.
Alec and Isabelle, two old friends of mine who I missed more than anything.
I grabbed four shot glasses full of rum and headed to the table where Sage waited.
"Hey, what took you so long? I was getting worried."
"Sorry Sage, I ran into an old friend."
"Old friend?"
"Yeah. Anyways, lets do some shots and get this party started." I smirked.
She laughed, "now you're talking."
Twelve shots later and we were on the dance floor surrounded by random sweaty people grinding against us and each other.
After we took some time to sober up, we decided to call it a night.
Sage dropped me off at my house and I immediately went to my room and changed. After taking my makeup off, I went to sleep.
I was woken up at exactly 3:33 am by my phone ringing. I looked at the caller ID and saw that it was Sage.
"Sage why the hell are you awake?" I asked, still groggy.
"Arabella," a shakey voice answers, "Sage was in an accident. The hospital called me immediately." I recognized the voice as Sage's mom.
I started to panic, "is she okay? What happened?"
"She's in a coma. They don't know exactly what happened but they found her car crashed into a huge tree. The cops said it looks like she swerved off the road."
"Was anyone else hurt?" I asked.
"No, just my baby. Just Sage." She cried.
"I'll come to the hospital."
"Don't bother, they aren't even letting me in the room yet. Try to get some sleep okay? We have to believe that she will be alright."
"Goodbye, Mrs. Anderson."
"Bye sweetie."
I didn't fall back asleep that night. I couldn't.
It was at 7:36 am that my best friend Sage Anderson was pronounced dead.
Dead, just like anyone else I have ever loved.
My parents both died when I was eleven They were attacked by demons while on a mission. After that, little eleven year old me made a vow to myself that I would never associate with shadowhunters again. After all, it was them who didn't save my parents.
After the attack, I'd found a way to disguise myself as a mundane. Of course, not without the help of Magnus. He made me so my runes could not be seen, unless activated by me. He also made me untraceable. Because my runes were disguised, my parabatai would believe I was dead. That was a terrible thing for me to do to her. Isabelle Lightwood was my parabatai. Surely it crushed her when she though I was dead, and surely she will never forgive me. That's why this is such a risk I'm about to take.
I am currently stood outside the New York institute. I haven't been here since my parents were killed. I take a deep breathe and grab the door handle. I'm finally going back.
