·ANGEL·

I sighed listening to Aislin ramble on. She hadn't been home for two years. College has occupied all of our times. I just decided not to go too far away from home, but Aislin and Dom had spread out exploring. I didn't want to veer away from... Aviana. I wanted to make sure my parents didn't kill her.

"Mommy, I'm telling you they were drunk. I mean the girl started pissing in her drink," Aislin shook her head. "Of course I didn't get drunk. I didn't even drink alcohol."

I looked at her, my eyebrows arched, questioning her authority. I tried to suppress the laugh in my voice as I said, "oh really?"

"Yes," she replied, "really. I'm a good girl."

"Good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught," I replied lowly making her growl. I laughed totally satisfied that I got under her skin.

She just played Mom. Of course Aislin got drunk. What nineteen year old wouldn't get drunk at a college party?

I remember vividly how she called me that night with a drunken state of mind.  Her words were slurring, and I heard her pass out on the floor.

Something else made that day really irritating though... oh yeah, I had to drive for three hours to make sure she got back to her dorm safely. Although the drive made me want to kill her as soon as I got in reach, I did love my sister and anything could've happened if I wasn't there.

"What does that imply?" Mom asked about my previous statement.

I shrugged, a smirk tugging at the corners of my lips. "Eh. Nothing really."

Aislin sighed through her mouth as she melted in her seat of relief. I chuckled and took another bite out of my bagel. I stood up to leave when Mom said something that made everything pause, including my heart.

"Angel, did you hear me?"

"I don't think he did. I'll go do it instead," Aislin filled in for me.

"No. I want him to do," Mom said again. Aislin sat back down mouthing the word, 'sorry.'

I obeyed grabbing the plate with very little scrambled eggs and one piece of bacon. That didn't fill anyone up. That couldn't even fill a five year old. I bit back the angry words that were trafficking through my head.

I carefully trailed down the stairs trying not to spook her. It was dark and gloomy in the basement. My parents refused to pay for lights to brighten up the room. I don't know how Aviana managed to adapt to this. I would be scared shitless everyday. Even though it was my basement, I had goosebumps driving down my arms because it was so lugubrious in there.

There were no windows at all and the only furniture in there was just a mattress at a corner with the blanket I gave her when she first came.

"Aviana?" I yelled when I couldn't find her.

I had no reply, the only thing I could hear were the sound of loneliness. Then I found dim light shimmering from the bathroom. Slowly walking towards there, I called for her again.
