june was awake early, earlier than any of the boys. she figured niall stayed up longer than she, and alex and jake were obviously out until morning hours. she didn't blame them, though. it was his first night there.

so she cleaned up the house, as a small 'than you' for letting her stay. she was almost done when niall walked into the kitchen. he looked around.

"holy fuck. it's clean." he said in shock, as if the house hadn't been cleaned in ages.

"yeah, uh, i thought i'd clean up a bit. to thank you for letting alex and i come and stay with you. it means a lot." june responded to him with a smile. niall nodded, a smile on his face. he thanked her, and then sat in a chair at the table, trying not to get in the way of the short brunette, who was still cleaning up a bit, before she took a seat on the couch, going on her phone.

jake came out of his room, looking practically like a ghost. he grabbed an apple and a bottle of advil, taking them back to his room. she looked at him, trying not to laugh.

"how much do you think he drank?" niall asked her when he heard the door of jake's room close softly.

"a lot. i could only imagine." june laughed, shaking her head. she stood, going to grab herself some dry cereal, pouring it in a cup and taking it onto the couch.

niall thanked her again for cleaning, and then went to go get ready for the day. june planned to go down to shops, and go window shopping. she got herself ready, dressing in a vivid blue sweater with maroon jeans and black shoes. her hair was in two french braids as she said her goodbyes.

the girl set out of the house, but not before niall chased her down and asked to go with her, telling her he didn't want to be stuck in the house all day. she accepted. she needed company anyway.

they passed a bunch of shops, until they finally went into one. it was full of stupid things, like weed t shirts and those pop up hats. she tried on one in particular, posing as niall actually took a picture of her in it. then he tried it on, and she couldn't help but smile. they kept posing in pictures as niall continued to take them, of himself and her and them together.

they went out of the shop with smiles on their faces. they bought nothing but that stupid purple hat that she loved so much. she held the bag on her wrist, like one of those fashionistas.

"woah there fashionista lady, slow down." niall gently grabbed june's forearm, to slow her down. her heart jumped at his touch, sending electricity down her spine. june disregarded the feeling.

she just then noticed that niall was practically running to keep up with her.

"oh, sorry, my bad." june walked slower, and she noticed another thing. niall never let go of her forearm. it was a soft touch, and june's heart began to pound, as his hand slowly moved down to her wrist, and then—

"watch it!"

two kids whizzed by them, almost knocking the girl off of her feet. she jumped to the opposite side niall did, disconnecting his hand as a whole.

"jesus christ." she said, clutching her chest as her heart rate slowly went down. she laughed breathily after, sighing deeply. they moved next to each other. they both laughed a bit as silence drifted over them.

"let's go in there." niall pointed to a game store, and the two went in. it was full of board games. june was immediately attracted to the checker and chess boards, and niall went to games like trouble.

"have you ever played checkers before? it's like... a simplified version of chess." she asked him, a certain board she liked in her hand. niall shook his head, and she was in disbelief.

"really?" june said in shock. "we gotta get it. you must know the genius and intense strategy that is checkers." she went up to the cash register, and she began looking for money, fishing out twenty dollars and giving it to the cashier, getting her change and shoving it back into her wallet. she beckoned niall, and the two left.

"looks like we've reached the end of the shops." niall smiled a bit. the street went into houses after the game shop, ending abruptly. she nodded.

"guess so." she laughed, a bit awkwardly. she was just an awkward person.

"come on, let's go back home. you can teach me how to play checkers." he gestured for her to follow him, which she did. the two walked back down the street, until they made it back to niall's.

"okay, so, checkers."

"god damn it, you beat me again!" niall cried in frustration, and june just laughed. the girl was a bit competitive herself, smirking when she won for the third time.

"don't worry, pretty boy, you'll get better." she teased, her voice coy.

"aww, you think i'm pretty?" niall joked, putting on a fake shocked face.

june simply rolled her eyes, and put the checker pieces and the board away.

"that's enough of that. i don't wanna beat you too hard, and hurt your feelings." june pretended to wipe seemingly invisible tears, a small laugh escaping her lips a few moments after.

"you'll see, you'll fucking see. i'm going to beat you one of these days." niall pointed a finger at her, which she pushed back with her own finger.

"if you say so, pretty boy."
