Chapter 12

"Don't you have homework to do?" Ethan teased as Dan sat down beside him, ready to play the Xbox again. Dan shook his head, taking one of the controllers and logging it in. "You sure? Because homework is more important than your boyfriend?" Ethan dragged out the 'o' in a whiny way, making Dan pout and shake his head again. "I don't hear you denying it!"

Dan started to giggle: he loved Ethan so much. He was just so adorable and sweet and ahhhh Dan was just so in love. "L-Love you." Dan whispered, kissing Ethan's cheek softly.

"I love you too, sweetheart." Dan gently shoved his boyfriend because he could tell from Ethan's tone of voice that he was teasing him again.

"Today we will be starting projects. I have put you all in pairs. The project is to make a Powerpoint about the themes featured in Macbeth and I expect quotes to be included. The partners are..." Dan shut his eyes tightly, waiting for his name to be called. "Dan and Phil." Dan jolted around, glaring at Phil who was sadly looking back. "That's everyone. I expect the project to be completed by Friday so you should do it in your own time as well as in today's lesson."

Dan groaned as people began to stand up and join their partners. He slumped back in his chair, expecting Phil to come over to him. He did. "So, Dan." He said through gritted teeth, sitting in the spare seat beside the boy. He opened up his book, ready to take notes but Dan stayed completely still. "Stop looking at me like that." Dan's gaze dropped down to the blank page. "Okay, so themes... there's ambition, supernatural..." Phil started to babble so Dan took out his phone and started to text Ethan underneath the table.

Dan: Ugh we have to do a stupid project in English

Ethan: On your own?

Dan: No, in pairs

Dan: And I'm stuck with the worst possible person. Guess who?

Ethan: Phil...

"Are you even listening?" Dan looked up from his phone, going slightly red. "I'm not doing this on my own. The more we get done now, the less we have to see of each other outside of school. You're coming to mine after school so we can get this stupid thing over and done with, alright?" Dan shrugged, going back to texting Ethan.

Dan: Yep.. And I need to go to his after school so tell Alice?

Ethan: You know I don't like him

Dan: We need to get it done though

Ethan: He can do it on his own? I don't want you to talk to him because he might hurt you or something...

Dan: I can't let him do it on his own though?

Ethan: Sure you can. Make up an excuse

Dan: Like?

Ethan: You're not feeling well? You have plans tonight?

Dan: Okay...

Dan picked up Phil's pen, writing on the corner of his page. Phil would have been furious if anyone else had written in his exercise book because he liked to keep it as neat as possible (apart from the occasional doodle). It was Dan though and how else were they meant to communicate.

I can't do tonight.

Phil raised an eyebrow, obviously not believing him. "Why?"

I promised Alice I'd go shopping with her.

"Fine. Tomorrow?"

Dan shook his head again, making Phil sigh. "Fine, I'll do it all on my own but don't worry, the teacher will know." Phil stood up, walking over to the teacher before speaking to him. Dan couldn't tell what he was saying but he knew it wasn't good because of the occasional glances he was receiving from the teacher.

"Dan, I need to talk to you after class." Dan nodded, biting his lip.

Dan: I think I'm in trouble now

Ethan: Better than having Phil hurt you :P

Dan: I suppose

"Dan, you can't just make Phil do all the project," The teacher said, hands on his hips in a threatening way. Dan dropped his gaze to the floor, not knowing how he was supposed to respond. "He also has things to do. What if I gave you guys extra time so.. the weekend?" Dan shrugged. "Only this once and you need to participate."

Dan: I have to go to Phil's at the weekend

Ethan: Why though? I'll miss youu

Dan: Because the teacher told me to.. or he could come to ours?

Ethan: Yeah, come to ours. That way I can protect you :P

Dan: Okay, I'll tell him

Dan took a deep breath as he entered the library at lunch and, sure enough, Phil was sitting at the back. He was reading something and, as Dan got closer, he realised it was the My Hero Acadamia manga. He reluctantly poked Phil's shoulder before stepping back. "Yes?" Phil responded, peering at Dan through a pair of glasses. Dan was surprised to see glasses (and honestly they suited him so well)- he hated to say he looked adorable in them.

Dan pointed at himself, making Phil cock his head to the side. "I have no idea what you're on about."

Dan frowned, searching for something to write on. In the end, he reached into his backpack and pulled out a notebook and pen, jotting down the message.

Come to mine for the project on Saturday? Sir extended the deadline for us

"I can't even remember where you live."

I'll text you the address? Can someone drive you though because it's quite far

"My mum."

With a nod, Dan turned and left the library.

Dan: Phil's coming over on Saturday

Ethan: Eh okay

Dan: The project shouldn't take that long

Ethan: If you say so..
