We are on day three of Stage Three, and Tris and Uriah are at the top of the ranking board, because of their Divergence. Uriah isn't as suspicious, because he did exceptionally well in Stage One and Two, but Tris got some unwanted attention last night because of her sudden advance in the rankings. She was attacked, and almost thrown into the Chasm. Tobias and I were walking back to our apartments when we heard screaming; therefore we kicked the crap out of them, and afterwards, Tobias insisted that he take Tris back to his place for protection; I didn't argue.
It is currently lunchtime, and Tobias and I are seated at a table with Zeke and Shauna.
"You guys know who did it?" Zeke asks, as we just explained to him Tris' attack.
"I know exactly who did it. They're all getting thrown out of Dauntless, I can tell you that much. As soon as I get a chance to talk to Max about it." I tell them, and they all nod, well, except for Tobias. He is deep in thought, staring at his food.
"Four, she's okay. She's with her friends." I tell him, pointing to her, seated across the hall. But suddenly, I see Al, one of her attackers, approaching her. I immediately rise from my seat, ready to defend the initiate I have grown somewhat protective over, but she stands up and threatens him, making him back off. Good for her.
Al leaves the dining hall as quickly as he came in, and my eyes skim over to Peter's table. He is sitting with Molly and a couple Dauntless-borns, and he's in rough shape. I beat Peter personally, to get back at him for the first day, and for kicking Tris' ass.
"He's not going to make it." Tobias utters, referring to Al, and with that, he leaves. God, he's been acting like such a moody girl lately.
I say my goodbyes to Zeke and Shauna, and I make my way to Max's office, to give a report on the incident of last night.
I make it to the door, and knock a couple times. He utters for me to come in, and I can tell he is about to snap at me, but when he sees my face, he relaxes.
"I apologize, I thought you were another concerned initiate. What would you like Arielle?" Max asks, and I sit down in one of the chairs in front of his desk.
"Well, I apologize Max, but I have come to discuss the incidents of last night. Four and I were witnesses Max, and we know who did it." I say, and Max rolls his eyes, annoyed with the whole conflict regarding last night.
"I was told by the victim that they were wearing masks." Max says, and my jaw drops. Tris lied to Max, what the hell? She could have solidified their leave from Dauntless, yet she decided to just take the easy way out. For fuck sakes Tris...
"What? Tobias and I saw all three of their faces, there must have been a mix up." I accuse, still unsure of why Tris lied.
"Are you accusing Tris of lying?"
"N-no," I stutter, sounding very unsure, but I recover quickly. "But she could have forgotten. She was really shaken up, Max." I try to explain, but he won't have it.
"I am not discussing this any further with you Arielle, please see yourself out." He asks, and turns back to his work.
"Please Max, you just have to-"
"OUT, now Arielle. I am done with this issue." Max finalizes my protests, and I walk out of his office, feeling defeated. Just as I am shutting the door, I hear Max's pager ringing.
I look at my watch, and see I have about a half hour left in lunch, so I decide to run back to the apartment for a water bottle.
I make it to the door within a few minutes, and I hear muffled voices. A female and a couple males. I open the door, and I am faced with Jeanine Matthews herself, an Erudite man I don't recognize, and Eric.
