The following day after my first fight, I see I'm up against Sterling and a Candor girl by the name of Destiny. She has dark hair, bright brown eyes, and a long, tall figure. She towers over my 5'6" frame, but that may be an advantage to me. I have to be more agile than her, so I can just wear her out.
Tobias explains to us things him and Eric will look for while they watch the fights, all the while Eric looks like he would rather be anywhere else. Ugh, asshole.
I step into the ring, as I am in the first fight, and face my first opponent; Sterling.
Sterling looks nervous, and I know he doesn't like to hit girls. He almost lost his fight yesterday to the worst ranking transfer. Luckily though, with one blow to her head, she was out cold. I know I have to avoid his fists, but also his entire upper body in general. He's like a wall up there. But his legs, that is where he's weak. He barely uses them.
"Go." Tobias says, and I bring up my arms as a block.
Sterling lunges at me right off the hop, but he's too slow for me. I easily dodge him, and kick his side, knocking him off balance. I kick him again, to get him on the ground, but he knows I like to kick so he grabs my foot, and pulls me beneath him. He manages to pin my legs, but I keep punching him in the face and throat while my arms are still free. He loses his strength for holding my legs, so I knee him in the groin and knock him off me.
He falls over, groaning. So I stand up, and back off. He can't go on, he's in too much pain. At least, that what I tell myself until Eric speaks up.
"Finish him, initiate." He demands.
"He's done, he can't fight anymore." I tell him, and smoke pours out of his ears. He's furious.
"Everyone stop. Let's go on a walk, Arielle, you're with me." Eric growls, and everyone follows him. We walk through the Dauntless halls, with some Dauntless watching us, and then scurrying away when they see the pissy look on Eric's face. Something tells me, deep in the pit of my stomach, that this isn't an ordinary walk.
We get to the Chasm, and walk over a bridge before Eric stops in the middle. My suspicions are confirmed, because, before I know it, Eric grabs my hips and casts me over the edge. I scream, and he grabs my wrists at the last second, hanging me over the Chasm. I see Tobias come to the front of the pack, and he looks to me hanging. He just about lunges for Eric's throat.
"Eric, what the hell is going on here?!" Tobias yells.
"This initiate needed to be taught a lesson, Four. You best leave her. She hangs, alone, for five minutes. If she gives up, she's out, and if she falls, she's dead. Time starts now for her." Eric says emotionlessly. Tobias' eyes meet my watery ones, and all he wants to do is save me, but he would never let me live factionless. He knows I need to do this.
I don't know how long it's been before my fingers start to slip on the wet, cool surface.
"No!" I cry out, grinding my teeth. I get a better grip, and count my breaths, trying to calm myself. I look at Eric, and he's looking at me with strong emotion in his eyes, but nothing in his features. It almost looks like this is hard for him, that he wants to help me, but I know that's impossible. He's the one who put me here!***Eric's POV***
Arielle is hanging on for dear life, and it's killing me. Ugh, no, no, no! I want to help her, but I can't. People can't know that I have a weak spot for this redhead, or that will put us both in trouble, and I can't get in trouble by my own fucking rules. People would never obey me again.
"No!" She cries, and I almost dive for her, but then I see her readjust her grip. There are sweat beads on her forehead, and she is grinding her teeth. She is losing strength; even the best initiates run out of energy.
Hang on, Arielle, hang on.
I look to the other initiates, and some are watching Arielle fearfully, while others pretend not to be staring at me with pure hatred. Whatever, they can hate me all they want, I don't give a shit about any of them. Only her. Nope, no, stop thinking about her!
Fuck, snap out of it, you dumbass! You can't like her, she's too good for you! And it's true. She's going to be the queen of Dauntless, hell, she's already the princess. And all I am is the ruthless huntsman. And with me hitting her yesterday, I don't think that got me many brownie points with her. And it was so inexcusable, I don't think I'll able to come back from that. The cut on her cheek will always be my constant reminder to stay away.
"Time." I say, cutting everyone, including myself, from their thoughts. Three people rush forward to help Arielle up, and when she's on the bridge, she gets up and glares coldly at me. If looks could kill, I would be dead a million times over.
"Get back to training, initiates. Four, I have some leadership shit to take care of. Evaluation will be left to you for the rest of the day." I say, and leave the group of transfers alone with Four.
In actuality, I don't have any leadership shit to take care of, I just need to find a girl to fuck, and fast.
That redhead needs to get out of my head.
***Arielle's POV***
As soon as Eric left, Tobias led us back to the training area, and the entire group was silent.
"Arielle, take the rest of the day. You can fight Destiny tomorrow, okay?" Tobias says, and I nod gratefully. I leave the training area, and begin silently roaming the halls of Dauntless.
What Eric did was unforgivable. Not that I trusted him or liked him in the first place, because of yesterday, but still. He has to have a hole in his chest cavity, where a living, beating heart used to be. That man can't have a heart, I mean seriously? Would anyone with a heart not feel the slightest, tiniest bit of remorse or sympathy? I know I'm a difficult person sometimes, but being hung over the chasm, I think that's overstepping by a country mile.
Pulling me out of my thoughts is the sounds of a couple getting it on. I internally gag, and walk past the hall I'm assuming they're down, given the noise level.
"Eric, I heard something." I hear a female voice moan. Shit. I backtrack a few steps, and peek down the hallway. Sure enough, Eric is pressing a slutty looking girl against the wall, kissing her roughly. The girl is looking around, and her eyes land on me. I disappear down the hall, running away.
"Arielle!" I hear a voice call, from a long distance away. He knows I saw. Shit, shit, shit.A little bit of a cliffhanger, huh?
Hope you lovelies are liking it!
