Just 'tired'

It was now Tuesday, there was six days including today until the bet was over, and for Maki that meant six days to get rid of whatever she was feeling for Kaito

She sighed as she walked into the cafeteria and sat down

"Hello Maki" Kirumi greeted when Maki sat down

"Hey Kirumi.." Maki replied spacing out

"Are you okay Maki?" Kaede asked poking Maki

"Huh?" Maki asked snapping out of her thoughts

"Are you okay? You've been off these past few days" Kaede said worried

"I'm fine, just not getting much sleep" she lied with a fake smile, but that wasn't it that wasn't it at all

Suddenly hands slammed on the table "What's up guys?" By now Maki knew the voice too well

"Go away Kaito, and take your friends with you" Kaede said annoyed

Kaito looked at Maki "no fuck off, no glaring, no comment? Nothing?" He asked

"Oh sorry I didn't realize it became a routine
Fuck off" Maki said laying her head on the table

"Leave her alone she's tired" Tenko snapped

For just a moment Maki meant Kaito's gaze before it broke "Fine, just because I'm feeling nice today"

"What a rare occurrence" Tsumugi commented as they walked away

Maki watched as they walked away, even if it wasn't the Kaito she knew, it was still Kaito, and she still couldn't help but have that weird feeling in her chest

"Try and get some sleep tonight k Maki?" Kaede asked, Maki Turned to look at her best friend and smiled slightly nodding

After school Maki went straight home, after just laying in bed for a while she heard a knock on the door downstairs, her mom wasn't home yet so she had to go get it

She made her way downstairs and to the door, when she opened it Kaito was standing there

"Do you need something?" She asked

"Are you okay?" He asked

"What do you mean?" Maki asked

"I mean, you weren't normal at school, what's wrong with you?" He asked

"Just tired" she replied looking at the ground for a moment

"Don't lie to me like that, I can see right through you"

"You barely even know me"

"That's not true, over the past almost month I've learned everything there is to know about you, don't give me that you don't me shit" Kaito said

"I see you brought your school personality home with you today" Maki muttered

"I'm sorry" he replied

"Why are you apologizing?" Maki asked

"Because I didn't mean to be a dick" he replied

"Why are you being so nice to me anyway? It's not like you, and I hate your guts you know" Maki replied

"No you don't" He replied

Maki gave him a confused look

"Like you said the other night, were friends Maki, and I worry about my friends"

"So this visit isn't about the bet?"

"No" he replied

Maki felt herself smile slightly "I'm fine really I promise, just tired"

"Okay, get some sleep tonight I don't want you to get sick" he said before turning and leaving the house, once he was gone Maki slid against the door until she was on the ground

"What are you doing to me?" She whispered, her head in her knees

As Kaito walked to his car he sighed 'I hate you for making me care so much' he thought looking back at the house before he left

Once Maki finally got up and went back to her room she flopped on the bed "how am I supposed to tell him he won? How am I supposed to tell everyone I lost? What are they gonna think of me?" Maki said to herself

"I really hate you Kaito, for doing this to me"
