I was so busy over the next two weeks that our trip back to America came upon me much faster than I had anticipated. I wasn’t complaining though, I was so ready for this holiday that if it hadn’t have come around so soon I would have ended up in one of those hospital beds.
I was so tired and I couldn’t wait to spend the next five days with Domingo and our family. The airport was very busy despite it being three am but I assumed it was because it was Christmas and like me and Dom everyone was off to see family or friends.
Thankfully our flight wasn’t delayed and when we finally boarded the plane Dom let me sit next to the window then he grabbed a blanket and pillow and told me to go to sleep. I felt a bit bad for that as it was a long flight and I wanted to spend time with him but if I slept now I would be in a better shape to do that with him later.
No sooner did my head hit the pillow I fell asleep. I woke up half sprawled over Domingo and his smiling face letting me know it was ok, he didn’t mind. The plane was starting its decent and I sat up straight and put the blanket and pillow away so that I could talk with Dom.
Because we had Lucas, and in London we just used the tube, Dom and I still didn’t know how to drive properly. We did drivers Ed in high school but never actually completed our test or got a car so Lucas was picking us up from the airport. I missed my friend so much, I hoped I found him in better spirits than when I left home. He had been more cheerful at the wedding now that he and Elliot were on better terms but I didn’t have time for a heart to heart with him.
We collected our bags and walked the miles of corridors to arrivals to meet up with Lucas, he told us he would be waiting for us right outside the doors. Domingo was first through the doors and he pulled Lucas in for a tight hug then I followed right behind him.
Three years had changed my friend and he was a few inches taller and a lot more toned than the skinny young man I last saw. He looked good and I was happy that he was smiling too and it seemed genuine, things between him and Elliot must be going well or he finally got over it.
We drove back to my mums house quickly we never stopped talking for a minute, Lucas telling us what he has been up too and we told him about our life in England. We told him we want him to visit anytime he can he doesn’t need to wait for a special occasion to come see us. I apologised that we hadn’t been back home often but my shifts just wouldn’t allow it.
When we pulled up outside the house the front door open immediately and my mum and Maria came sprinting out. We barely had time to get out of the car when they threw their arms around our necks squeezing us tight in a hug.
My dad chuckled from the door and Theo and Alfie scoffed at their emotional outburst. The only person I couldn’t see was Elliot and just as I was about to ask Lucas told me that he was due home from work any minute. He couldn’t get the full day off which was fine as long as he would be here soon so that I can give him a hug, I missed him.
Theo came forward to help Lucas with our bags as our mums dragged us into the house muttering on about how long it had been, how tired I looked and how much weight I had lost. Domingo was scolded for not eating properly and for how long it had been but he didn’t look tired even though I knew he was.
Once we were pulled into the kitchen plates of food were placed in front of us and drinks were poured to celebrate our return. This went on for the rest of the day, around an hour after we arrived I heard a truck pull up outside and Lucas told me that would be Elliot.
I went to the front door to wait for him and when he opened it I threw myself at him as he laughed and apologised for being late. It didn’t matter he was here, it was crazy just how much I missed him brothers are supposed to be annoying but I love Elliot like a best friend.
