I am updating again to make up for the last chapter being quite poor. I hope this one is a bit better for you xx

…………………………………………………………………………………………

After New Year’s I brought Domingo into work to see the children as promised and he helped me to dish out all of the goodies that we had brought back from America. We kept Emily’s gift for last and when Dom walked into the room to give her it, she beamed at him.

He had hidden the bear and sweets behind his back in one hand and went to hug her with the other, once they had greeted each other he pulled out his surprises and she squealed in delight. I felt better about Dom giving her the gifts because technically I wasn’t picking favourites if he did it. I was very happy for her as she named the bear Jessie and snuggled up with it as Dom left the hospital.

Over the next few days however the happiness of being back at work and seeing Emily smiling brightly because of Dom’s visit wore off quickly. Emily’s parents were called in because her latest batch of Chemotherapy did not have the desired effect and although she would never show it, it had left her very weak.

I have been keeping a close eye on her since, not only because I wanted her parents to feel more relaxed but because I wanted her with all my heart to survive. She was such a vivacious little girl and I wanted that quality to outshine the disease trying to quench the light in her.

Because she didn’t like making a fuss and was still being as brave as ever I wanted to do something special for her. It was something we did from time to time for the most brave, terminally ill children and I felt that Emily fell into that category. So I decided to apply to the Make a Wish foundation for her and I hoped that her situation was enough to make her eligible.

When I got home that night I told Dom about my plans for Emily and he agreed it would be a good thing to do for her so I decided to speak to her parents to make sure they approved. When they sat down in my office the next day I assured them it wasn’t more bad news, I described to them what the Make a Wish foundation did.

They were both thrilled at the idea that Emily could experience something like having a wish come true. They agreed with me that it might encourage her to keep being positive which would help her to get better. Once they had left my office to visit their daughter I set about filling in the application form for Emily and sending it off along with her medical history.

In the meantime I went about my duties trying very hard to keep it from Emily one, because I didn’t want to ruin the surprise and two, because I didn’t want to get her hopes up. So I focused on other duties and Domingo, he had talked about having children in the future but I think after seeing our families over Christmas he had changed his mind about waiting.

He was so sweet because he was taking my job into consideration, he had it all planned out and decided that the children would go to his school so that he could drop them off and pick them up. When they were too little for school we would hold interviews for a child minder and because he finished work at three and didn’t work weekends it wouldn’t be like palming them off.

I listened and watched as he became more and more excited, how he lit up talking about turning the spare room into a nursery. He talked of names and whether he would like a boy or a girl first. He decided how much he was prepared to pay for a surrogate and how he would prefer for that person to have no rights or visits at all.
