Domingo’s POV

It was hard work trying to convince Charlie not to give up on us just yet, we were still at the middle of his treatment and we knew it would get bad before it got better. I can’t imagine how he is feeling but to me he is still Charlie, he is still my husband and I will keep him around for as long as I can.

He has just had another batch of Chemo and he is so tired, his body is fighting the Chemo and the Chemo is fighting the cancer. I hate to see him so weak, Charlie has always been so independent and strong and to have that taken away from him so early in life is heart-breaking.

I have decided that I am going to take him away for the weekend before I have to go back to school. I have been planning it in private with Lena who has agreed to keep Emily for us so that Charlie can get some rest. I am taking him up north to a cottage in the Lake District so there will be no distractions, just calm and quiet rest time.

When the weekend came I bundled Charlie into the car I had rented and we drove to the Lakes, as we left London and joined the motorway the atmosphere between us was already more relaxed. Five hours later and a couple of wrong turnings and I found my way to the cottage, Charlie was laughing at my mistakes as it turns out we had passed the cottage several times before arriving.

It was good to see him laugh again and when I told him that he blushed and climbed out of the car. I followed him to the door where a little old woman was waiting to hand us the keys for the weekend. She went over a few rules and I thanked her before she left us in peace.

Charlie and I looked around the cottage and the grounds before I went to the car to get our luggage. The place was a lot bigger than I had imagined but it still had a homey feeling that I found comfortable. When I brought the bag in Charlie was sitting on a rocking chair looking into the wood burning stove that was crackling away.

“The old lady must have lit that for us before we arrived, that was nice.” He said.

“Yes she seems nice.” I smiled back. “How about I run you a bath it’s quite late so maybe we could just have an early night tonight and we can do something tomorrow instead. A bath should help your aches a bit?”

“Yeah that would be lovely thanks Dom.”

“No problem.” I said kissing him on the head.

When the bath was filled I called out to him and he came shuffling in a moment later, I ended up joining him in the bath slipping in first so that he could rest against my chest. We lay there until the water turned cold then I washed him down gently and helped him back out again.

I missed his kiss, I hadn’t been able to kiss him properly since the chemo because it gave him sores and ulcers but I was looking forward to a time when I would be able to kiss him properly again. Instead as I dried him off I planted soft kisses along his jaw line and down his neck to help him relax.

The next day I woke early because I was covered in something that was extremely hot, when I managed to focus I realised Charlie was draped across me. I touched his forehead and he was very hot so I slipped out from under him to get him some cold water, paracetamol and a cold compress for his forehead. I wanted to stop this turning into a fever because we were too far from London to get him to his own doctor and I didn’t want to have to take him somewhere unfamiliar.
