The last few weeks have been so hectic I am completely exhausted. I have been working sixteen hour shifts and I have barely had a day off, this is making Domingo worried and I can’t really blame him. I feel like the walking dead and I seriously need the Christmas break that I have booked in for our trip back to America.

Only two more weeks to go and I will have five days off to spend Christmas with our family, it’s not long but I can’t wait I just wish we could have stayed out there for New Year’s too. Dom is dying to go back to Albuquerque too he is a mamma’s boy and I know he misses Maria terribly so I know I will hardly see him while we are there.

I don’t mind though I miss my mum and dad too and I can’t wait to see how Elliot and Theo have been getting on. I haven’t seen them since the wedding and that was just over three years ago so I miss them all so much it is hard being so far away from them.

Tonight I am going to concentrate on reacquainting myself with one Domingo Mendez, someone I haven’t had much time to spend with recently. I have been feeling extremely guilty about this but I know he understands and I love him for that but tonight I want it to be just us no hospital or school work. I want it to be fun and not cheesy so I have a few things up my sleeve to bring the excitement back into our relationship, there’ll be time for romance afterwards.

I had arranged my shifts so that Dom and I were able to have date night every month and I made sure that I turned off my work phone and pager. I was not to be disturbed and they knew it, it was one night a month and I am positive they could cope without me.

I was due to finish up in an hour so I grabbed my stethoscope and clipboard and made my final rounds before I left. I checked on the few patients that had been specifically assigned to me and I checked their vitals before writing on their personal file what medicine or food they would need that night.

Before I left I made my way to Emily’s room, she was in a side ward in a large room just for herself which she adored but only because she had trouble sleeping with the noise in the larger wards. During the day if she was feeling well enough she would join the other children to play, we tried not to keep her bed bound and locked up. She needed to act as normal as possible to help her condition to heal and fun was the best form of medicine.

I knocked on the door smiling in to catch her attention before entering, she always chided people for not knocking and I couldn’t help but chuckle. Five years old and already a little madam, so grown up for someone who should want to play with dolls and dress up.

“Hey Em.” I smiled.

“Charlie!” She beamed.

“How we doing today kiddo?” I asked her.

“I’m ok, just watching Phineas and Ferb.” She replied attention slipping back to the TV.

I picked up her chart and examined the medication lists and when her next lot was due, I checked her vitals on the monitors and made sure that she was still comfortable. Her temperature was a little high so I wrote on the chart for some Calpol and for it to be monitored on the hour until tomorrow morning.

“Hey I’m not going to be around tonight Emily so is there anything you need before I go?” I asked.

“Where are you going?” She asked attention coming back to me again.

“I told you Domingo and I are going on a date.” I smiled.

“Oh yeah, when will Domingo come and see me again?” She asked pouting slightly.

“Soon I promise, I have just been too busy keeping you all entertained haven’t I?” I chuckled.

“Well Domingo could help again?” She asked hopefully.
