Around six months after I was given the all clear I was back at work, I had steadily built up my hours until I was back full time. I was using my second chance to try and give some of these children a second chance too, but as much as I tried to push it away the feeling that this job just didn’t mean as much to me, came back to me over and over.
It was still an important part of my life but my priorities seemed to have changed over the past year and now I wanted nothing more than to spend as much time as possible with Emily and Dom. I was thinking of reducing my hours to see if that would appease me but there was still a niggling thought in my mind, but for now I pushed it away.
Over the last few months I had gotten my appetite back so Dom, Emily and I had been eating out a lot lately, I knew he was trying to fatten me up but I just enjoyed our time as a family. I had put pretty much all of the weight back on again and my hair had grown back a while back so I was looking and feeling much healthier.
I was at work right now completing paperwork that had been building up during my absence, it was tedious work but it had to be done and I had to catch up on everything I had missed. I looked at my pc blinking away on my desk and I noticed an unopened mail from Dr Finkle.
Hey Charlie
I hope you are well, I heard of your illness from your mother and I am so very happy that you are now in remission. I hope to hear from you soon don’t forget you promised to keep in touch!
Dan.
I smiled at the short email, it was nice of him to check up on me and it was a nice reminder of how simple my life was back when I worked for Albuquerque general. My chest tightened at the thought, I had been missing my family a lot lately, ever since they left after Emily’s birthday party.
Domingo had promised we could visit soon but they filled my mind all of the time and I missed Theo, because he wouldn’t come to England I hadn’t seen him in years and I wondered how he was doing. I wasn’t sure if I should be feeling this way because all of my dreams had come true but I wasn’t sure that London was working for me anymore.
I couldn’t leave though, I had my job and I couldn’t make Domingo leave yet another job because I wanted to leave the country again. I had already made him abandon his kids once I couldn’t make him do that again not when this was likely to be just a phase.
But it wouldn’t hurt to just ask would it?
Hey Dan!
Thank you for asking I am feeling much better, I am putting weight back on and my appearance is going back to normal. I am also back at work looking after my kids and working hard as usual. I am missing Albuquerque and my friends and family but I guess that’s life huh?
Good to hear from you and I hope you are well too!
Charlie
I clicked send and smiled, I picked up another form and began my paperwork again. Around an hour later I heard the noise of my chat box going off on my computer and when I looked sure enough there was a request waiting to chat with Dan.
