They all began to fall towards what looked like Earth. In the middle of all the chaos, Thor accidentally let go of the tessaract. He remained silent about that because he knew that it would cause another issue. But how was he going to hide it when they needed the tessaract to get to Asgard?
They each hit the ground one by one. They landed in snow, so at least they weren't badly injured. When Loki landed, his magic dissipated and he was back in his usual attire as he laid on the cold powdery snow. They all laid on the ground, groaning in pain. But the first one to get to his feet was Steve.
"Are you kidding me? Look at this! Look at what you did, Stark!" Steve yelled in frustration, pointing to the world around them.
They were in an area covered by snow and surrounded by evergreen trees. Steve had hardly ever set foot in places like this, so he had no idea where they could possibly be. It seemed to be sometime in the afternoon, judging by the position of the sun. Assuming they were somewhere in America, of course.
Steve began to shiver as an icy cold breeze blew through his hair. He examined their surroundings as he folded his arms to stay somewhat warm. Everyone else was also so cold that they were shivering. Except Steve noticed that Loki was unresponsive to the frigid cold. But he had bigger fish to fry than worrying about Loki's immunity to the cold.
"Me? You pushed me from the Bifröst. This is your fault," Tony retorted calmly as he got up.
Steve scoffed in disbelief. Tony was too calm considering their current situation. They were lost in the middle of an unknown land. How dare he be so chill about it! Not to mention, Tony didn't even realize that it was his fault they had fallen from the Bifröst.
"How can you be so calm in this situation? We're in the middle of nowhere!" Steve yelled, getting so frustrated that the veins in his arms began to pop.
"Correction: you're in Colorado, in the middle of nowhere," called an unfamiliar voice from behind them. At this point, everyone stood up and looked towards the direction of the unknown voice.
There was a female sitting on the porch of a two story log cabin, wrapped up in a coat and a blanket. She had a mug of some sort of hot beverage and she seemed to be shivering, despite having a coat, blanket, and a hot drink. She had (h/c) hair, (e/c) eyes, (s/c) skin, and a grin plastered across her face.
They all must've been so disoriented and angry that they completely didn't notice the girl or the log cabin. They each glanced at each other, not quite sure how they should respond.
"Did you see what just happened?" Natasha asked the mysterious girl. She shrugged, seeming to be confused.
"I looked down to take a sip of my hot chocolate, then I suddenly heard yelling," she spoke with knit eyebrows, "Where did you guys come from? Why are you all cosplaying in the middle of nowhere? Is there a convention nearby that I was unaware of?"
"What are you talking about?" Steve pondered.
"You guys sure are dedicated to your characters. You all look just like them," the girl giggled, "It's very convincing."
"Oh, you think we're pretending to be the Avengers?" Tony asked, beginning to understand the situation.
"Well, yeah. Nice Loki cosplay, that must've taken a lot of hard work and money to make, and it looks just like the one in the movie! I have to admit, Loki's my favorite," she replied with a smile and a slight blush.
"WHAT?" all of them but Loki asked in unison, completely dumbfounded.
Though Loki was silent, he was also surprised by what she said. He wasn't used to being the favorite. After suffering so many years of being second after his brother, this kind of attention was unfamiliar to him. But it gave him a strangely warm sensation that he liked. He could easily get used to this kind of treatment.
"Are you crazy?!" Clint asked with wide eyes and raised brows.
"Possibly," she shrugged and took a sip of her hot chocolate.
"Wait, did you say it looks like the one in the movie? What movie?" Natasha asked, sounding a little worried now.
"The Avengers movie. Don't play dumb guys. You can drop the act now," the girl commented, sounding a little irritated, "The commitment is cool and all but it's starting to get really annoying."
"There's a movie about us?" Steve asked, looking to everyone around him. He seemed just as lost as everyone else was.
At this point, they were all so confused that they forgot about how cold they were.
"I don't recall a movie about us," Banner mumbled, very puzzled.
"We are the actual Avengers. I don't know what makes you think we aren't. Now, if you could be so kind as to point us to a nearby city or town, that would be greatly appreciated. We will be out of your hair as soon as we can leave," Tony called to the girl.
"You guys really think you're the Avengers?" The girl asked, a look of confusion on her face.
"Maybe they're all insane? Or just super dedicated to their characters," she commented to herself, just loud enough for them to hear.
In an instant, almost as if it was out of impulse, Thor raised Mjolnir. The girl let out a sigh and looked up at him. She sat there for a few seconds before realizing that he wasn't going to put the hammer down. Her smile disappeared the more she watched him.
"Alright, as fun as this encounter has been, I know how you can get to the nearest town, so-"
The girl was instantly interrupted by thunder booming in the distance. She dropped her blanket as she quickly stood up from her chair and looked up into the sky in disbelief. Her eyes grew wide as she watched storm clouds form above them. The clouds spun in circles above Thor, getting darker and darker the bigger they became. As lightning stretched down from the clouds and touched Mjolnir, everyone else around Thor took a few steps back. The lighting wrapped itself around the hammer and Thor as thunder boomed in the near distance.
Wind blew in circles around them. It was so powerful that it blew the snow around Thor away, leaving a circular patch of grass around him. When Thor lowered his arm, the storm clouds disappeared in an instant and everything went quiet. The only audible thing was the girl's heavy breathing and the sparking noise of the lightning that was around Mjolnir.
"What's... what's happening? Am I... am I dreaming? Am I in some sort of coma? This isn't real... this isn't real. This can't be real. But it was so realistic. And no matter how many times I pinch myself it hurts. What's happening? Am I going insane? I'm going insane," The girl spoke quickly, seeming to be scared out of her mind. The snow crunched underneath her feet as she paced back and forth, her eyes wide and her face pale as if she had seen a ghost.
"Hey calm down, it's not that big of a deal. Now, if you could-" Steve began to speak with a calm voice to make an attempt to calm the lady down, but she interrupted him.
"This is a huge deal," she replied, looking up at him with wide eyes.
"Why?" Clint asked.
"Because you guys aren't real, or rather, you shouldn't be real," she quickly replied, holding her head in her hands.
The Avengers looked at each other, seeming to not understand what the girl was saying. The girl continued to mumble to herself and pace back and forth as they still didn't know what she was talking about.
"What?" Natasha asked.
"You guys are just fictional beings I've seen in comic books and on the TV," the girl replied.
Everyone (except Loki, he was just hanging out casually with no reactions at all) exchanged alarmed expressions.
"Guys, when we fell through that wormhole, we must've gone into a different dimension entirely. This isn't our Earth," Bruce spoke up, his eyes growing wide at his hypothesis.
Everyone fell silent, not sure how to take everything in. They'd gone through some complicated stuff in the past, but this situation was high on the list.
"I'm going to faint," Natasha huffed as she staggered. Clint held her arm to keep her balanced.
"And I thought today would be a relaxing day when I woke up this morning," Clint mumbled, massaging his temples.
