Well, I suppose that could've gone worse. But now Loki is refusing to look at me. I was going to make small talk, but what's the point if he refused to even lock eyes with me.

There was an air of awkwardness. It was suffocating.

I sat in deep thought, shifting my thoughts from Loki to the Avengers. They were outside in the freezing cold, looking for the tessaract. I wanted to help them. I couldn't help but feel useless.

Maybe there's a news article about it? Finding something like that would definitely spark conversation. It's a shot in the dark but it's better than doing nothing.

With that thought, I began to search for local news outlets. I scanned through anything and everything I could. With this being such a small area with a small population, word of something weird spreads fast.

I kept refreshing the local news site but nothing would pop up.

Click. Click. Click.

The only sound in the room was me clicking the refresh button. I just sat there and mindlessly clicked.

I realized something was off and I glanced up to see a vacant room. Loki wasn't sitting on the couch anymore.

"Dammit, where'd he go? I had one job," I angrily huffed at myself as I stood from the couch. I frantically glanced around the room but I didn't see him. I ran into the kitchen but it was empty. I searched the bathroom, closet, and I checked the basement but he was nowhere. I ran to the second floor, and I searched all of the rooms. I ran into my bedroom, ready to stop searching and panic. That's when I found Loki snooping through my things. My closet door was open, and he somehow managed to open my safe. I kept important papers in that safe, and he opened it like it was nothing. He seemed very content with himself when he realized I found him.

"Hey! I didn't give you permission to look through my stuff!" I yelled at him, but he continued, completely unfazed.

"So you inherited this place after your parents died? Intriguing. Very fascinating. You also have a large sum of money that your parents gave you," Loki spoke with a tone of voice that he purposefully used to piss me off even more, "What else is there? Shall I dig further?"

I lunged forward to snag the papers from his hands, but his body disappeared in a light green haze.

"Let's see how exactly your parents died," he said from behind me as he mindlessly flipped through my box of important papers. He sat on my bed with the box in his lap.

"There's nothing of interest to you in there," I mumbled angrily, "Why do you insist on being such a pest?"

"I enjoy making people angry. Recently, I've discovered that I do it well," he smirked as he glanced up at me.

"I guess if you insist on looking through it, go ahead. I have nothing to hide, just ask next time. And please don't lose any of those papers," I muttered. He huffed in reply, and flung the papers back into the box. He looked at me with a face of boredom. Clearly he wasn't enjoying himself now that he wasn't annoying me.

I heard the front door fling open from downstairs. The Avengers were back, and they sounded exhausted. I went downstairs to see them, and Loki followed behind me.

"Any luck?" I asked with a tinge of hope for them. But their defeated faces told me otherwise.

"Don't worry guys. I'm sure you'll find it soon. In the meantime, sit down and warm up next to the fire," I said as I lit the fire. I also turned the TV on so we could watch something. The news was on when I turned the TV on.

"And for today's weather forcast; it's going to be colder compared to yesterday. Be cautious on the roads," the weatherman spoke as he motioned to the weather forecast for the rest of the week.

"Wow, how can a place be so cold?" Clint complained, still shivering. I chuckled at his remark as I stepped back to let the Avengers enjoy the fire.

"Wait, we have breaking news," the news reporter chimed in, catching everyone's attention, "A strange glowing cube was found in southern Colorado. Scientists have been called to the scene, and they're collecting it. A group of teenagers came across the glowing object, and they were injured by it. Three are in stable condition, but the other two are in critical condition. We will keep you updated on that."

The news showed a video of some scientists examining the tessaract, and they were carefully collecting it. At the end of the breaking news segment, it showed the scientists driving away, taking the tessaract with them.

Thor let out a little gasp, and Tony rushed to his feet.

"I hope those kids are okay," Steve sighed.

"Those scientists are from a lab in Denver, which is about an hour north from here," I commented as I recognized the group of scientists. I was trying to make them feel better, but they didn't seem any better.

"What are we supposed to do? Go up there, break in, and steal the tessaract from them?" Bruce asked, chuckling a little bit at the ridiculous idea. But everyone else exchanged glances, shrugging.

"I mean, that wouldn't be the worst thing we've done," Natasha looked over at Tony to see if he agreed.

"Are we actually going to do this?" Bruce questioned, looking around at everyone else to see that none of them opposed the idea.

"We could definitely pull it off. The opposition wouldn't be horrible, given the fact that we have weaponry that's more advanced. And we have a supersoldier and two gods," Tony added.

He paused to look around the room, and no one seemed opposed.

"Alright, since no one disagrees, let's go commit a crime," Tony spoke.
