ELISE

After my time in the Fresno Memorial Gardens, I figured I'd spend the last bit of time that I had left with my mother and give her some much needed solace. I was in the kitchen, preparing a nice hot cup of green tea to calm her nerves. Her mental health has been steadily deteriorating and the incident between my father and I was what triggered her downward spiral. Stress and agitation seemed to be her default emotions when the house was empty and my father not being around her would stave off those feelings temporarily.

I've never held disdain towards anyone in my life besides those who deserved it and my father was the one person that I would make an exception for. His pride, selfishness, and manipulation has kindled a new fond disrespect for him. He never cared about my feelings or anyone else's for that matter. All he ever focused on was what he wanted, what made him happy, and anything that had to do with the FPD. I'm glad I wasn't apart of it anymore because I no longer have to live under his shadow and be berated constantly by him.

As I ambled through the living room with two mugs in my hands, I noticed that she had moved from the couch and made herself comfortable near the window sill seat. Her eyes were captivated by the brightness of the full moon that was wafting in the midnight blue sky. My mother always felt the most tranquil whenever she looked at the moon. All of her worries tend to melt away because of how soothing the moon was to her. Seeing that, my lips curved into a tiny smile and I knew just what to do to further pacify her anxiety.

"I know you're somewhere out there, somewhere far away. I want you back, I want you back." I sang to her, snapping her out of her quiet gaze.

She regarded me with a gentle smile and she followed suit with the impromptu acapella. "My neighbors think I'm crazy, but they don't understand. You're all I have, you're all I have."

As I sat down across from her, I gave her one of the mugs and continued my attempt at a decent cheer up for her. "At night when the stars light up my room, I sit by myself..."

Mom's voice became smooth and clear, gliding her voice through the charming lyrics. "Talking to the moon...trying to get to you..."

"In hopes you're on the other side talking to me too, or am I a fool, who sits alone, talking to the moon?" I sang again, relishing the lyrics on my tongue. I'm not as good as my Mom but it was decent to say the least.

We glanced at each other before a fit a laughter came from us, enjoying the little bonding time we're having together. "Not bad, Elise. You could've been a singer with a little more practice, precious."

"I'm doing the world a favor by NOT singing. I highly doubt that my voice is that good," My voice wasn't perfection like a seasoned veteran in the music world but it wasn't horrible to the point where I would get jeered off a stage if I were to ever sing to a crowd. Singing was okay to me, but dancing was where my passion truly lies. "Thanks for the compliment anyway, Mom."

"You're welcome. Speaking of music, Bruno Mars is starting his third music tour soon! Oh, Elise, we have to go see that cutie pie live in person one day! We'll make it a family outing with Lyra and McKenzie! I know they'll like that! 24k magic in the aiiii-iiir..." My mother replied. She was slightly more exuberant than she was before, so that let me know that she was feeling a tad bit better.

"Sounds good. I'll look at his itinerary to see when he'll be coming here and I'll get the tickets." I was glad that my Mom was regaining some of her energy back, but I never did tell her the news about working for Bruno nor had the chance to tell her that the person that I've met was indeed the same person. Too many negative things had been happening to leave room for anything positive to shine its light on.
