Chapter 6

Walking down the silent halls, hearing the echoing of slight whispers only made entering her main place of torment worse. She didn't need the rumours or the whispers, but she didn't have a choice in that did she?

The sixteen-year-old couldn't make the decisions of her peer's reactions to the ghost now wondering the halls. No, Tris could only make her own decision to ignore their stares and words. Though the task seemed for doable in her head in then in the cruel reality in which they all live. It was like a slap to the face when she reached her locker to see the note stuck to the door. A note that held such hateful words on how was just an attention seeker and wanted to cause troubles. Words that in the past she would've harboured and taken as how she is really seen, where as now she can turn to look her fellow students in the eyes, rip up the note and chuck in the bin, along with their opinions.

Meer seconds later her brother appeared, he placed his hand on her shoulder as some sort of comfort before whispering four three little words in her before again disappearing into the sea of now strangers. Four small words that gave her the confidence to walk into her first class and not hang her low.

"You have the power"

The day passed with little to no events, which was a first in a long time. Though someone just had to throw their input in, try to ratter her cage.

"Bet you set the whole thing up, made Nathan do those things so you could receive sympathy. I can see right through you, and I'm not buying it" she said spitefully, crossing her arms in distaste

Everyone in the hall stopped and waited, waited for the response of the girl who seemed to have suffered yet didn't speak out.

"There is nothing to buy, its not a clothing sale" Tris spoke with no hint of emotion and especially not fear "What you believe isn't my business, but when you make it your business to come up and try to insult me, to say what I've been through is fake, then it is my business to tell you to get your facts right before assuming and accusing" She turned to the people in the hall

"I know your opinions of me, I hear the whispers and I see the pointing. So, let me clear this up for you all, I was bullied by people and it got so bad I felt I couldn't turn to anyone, because I felt like a burden. And before you give to the "Why didn't you just speak up" bullshit, keep in mind half this school knew about all of the torment and said nothing, so how would you expect me to say anything? And who would've believed me? He was a popular kid who was well liked, and his dad is well respected! I'm not going to put myself through more agony that I can avoid, I was scared and I have every right to be. So yes, my decision to run away wasn't the best one, but that's all I could do, people were saying horrible things and I was physically being hurt. I'm not here to get your sympathy but keep that in mind next time you try to blame the victim of any crime."

The corridor was stunned silent, teachers stopped and listened to her, no one tried to silence Tris because they all knew it needed to be said. So, with that Tris grabbed her stuff, slammed the locker door and walked out the school and went to sit on the steps waiting for her older brother's arrival to pick her up and take her away from this judgemental place.

The older four walked out of school and they all migrated to the car; it was silent for a while till Alex spoke up

"I'm proud of you, with composure and dignity you showed them that you held your power and held your place"

"I couldn't just let talk to me that way, I've already let people get away with so much, no more" she responded with a small voice, fiddling with her fingers

"If its anything to laugh at, I've never seen teachers looked so struck with shock" Alex joked and in turn got a laugh from the others lightening the mood for the rest of the car ride.

-Later in the evening-

Tris sat on the couch, laptop open as she typed up her homework, she was already behind as I was so to gain the credit she lost, the school made her deal if she does a different assignment for the final grades I would count. Earphones in and music on, the rest of the world was drowned out, so she didn't hear the knock at the door or the small conversation that was exchanged between Logan and the person at the door. Hell, she didn't even notice when this persona walked over to the couch to sit next to her. Only realising someone was there when a hand touched her shoulder, causing her to jump and almost drop her laptop.

"Don't do that to me!" she exclaimed out of breath from the scare

"Sorry... you weren't focused, so I thought tapping you would be better than yelling at you" Charlie replied sheepishly, scratching the back of his head.

The pair headed the porch outside and took a seat on the hammock, looking out to the setting sun over the behind the tress to make room for the moon and for the stars to shine brightly. For the first time in a while the sky was clear and every star shone with light and softly lit the backyard up with an illumine shade. Her brothers were in their respected rooms doing homework or paperwork; none paying attention to the two outside.

Tick... Tick...

"Do you want to talk about today?" he asks quietly

She shakes her head, not wanting to have to explain the outburst in the hallway anymore today, she only wanted to sit with Charlie and be content with the present time. Not the past nor the future, just sit with together and admire the stars that have seemed to come out of hiding tonight.

Tick... Tick...
