Chapter 2

*third person POV*

Some weeks had passed and the family continued with resettling now she was home. It seemed as if a hole had been filled and things were at peace again. No, they would never be the same; the only way for that to occur is if someone were to invent a time machine. School being out only made the situation easier on them all. The could fully heal and mend broken relationships as well as making some new ones.¦

He took her down to the river, hand in hand they walked. Not a word was spoken, the comfortable silence was only broken when a sound in the distance was made or they listen to the flow of the river crashing down the bend. She could compare her life to the river, with each turn some of it crashed into the walls of the bank and bits broke away. She was on a rollercoaster and couldn't get off, too many hurdles thrown her way, too many to steer clear of in time.

He watched her as she observed the flowing rapids, he noticed every little detail. The freckles that dance faintly over her cheeks. The way her blonde hair now looked earthy at the roots, it almost seemed as if she was beginning to show more features of her father and brother. He shook those thought of the man who claimed to be her 'biological' father. Â He took both her hand in his, the movement grabbing her attention; two pairs of eyes met and it was almost if timed slowed down for them. Yes, that sound as cliché as anything, but that's the only way to describe it.

Maybe this time they would meet in the middle?

Would there be enough time for emotions they were too scared to admit verbally to each other?

So close yet so far apart, so close and just as they touched the revving of a car engine caught their attentions making them snap apart like before. Oh, how cruel fate was being right now, why couldn't they have their moment? Little did they know fate had other plans on when they could finally be completely honest with each other.

-Later that day-

She laid on the couch, head rested on one of her brothers laps and slept. He ran his fingers through he surprisingly unknotted hair. It wasn't exactly quiet, the eldest two were working and the others doing God knows what. Her brother began to think how far they had come, form the not so small family being torn apart, secrets and lies. To now, when he could still hold his younger sister without having to worry about it being a dream. That fear would always remain, that she would disappear again, but it seemed so unlikely now, but it stilled lingered. It would stay around like the ghost of a thought and memory never to leave only to sit in the shadows of their minds.

They hadn't done much that day, of course they had a family breakfast (including Nathan) and after some other stuff everyone went about their ways. As I mention before a particular pair went to the river and had fate being a sneaky shadow again. So, when he rocked up at her door again, this time with movies, she smiled and pulled him inside.

The last movie finished a while ago and the now sat in the pillow fort they had made as if they were five with no worried or concerns. The sat crossed legged and in front of each other, everyone was asleep. The digital clock beside them ticked quietly as they waited for a special moment, she looked in her lap; her hair falling over her face almost like a shield from the outside world. He reached his hand out and pulled her chin upwards so her eyes met his again. He ran his hand across her cheek lightly. The clock beeped quietly just as she placed her hand over his. They laid down on the pillows and he wrapped his arms around her middle cuddling close to her. As she fell into her deep sleep, the faint whisper from him nearly inaudible was spoken, but she heard it.
