Faye Dixon
I woke up with Carl pressing what seemed like a cloth to my head, and then it was quickly followed by some intense pain."Are you okay? Faye, can you hear me?" Carl said, everything was still blurry and my vision was swarmed with dots, so I had to make out his voice in order to know it was him. I blinked, trying to get rid of the blur. "Are you okay?" Carl asked again. Whatever was pressed to my head felt cool, and soft. But it also brought some pain.
"I'm," I winched, my head pounding louder as I tried to speak "Fine." I said and sat up, realizing we had stopped yet again, and that I was the only one on the couch on the right side. Everyone else was either probably outside or sitting across from me. I felt dizzy as soon as I had sat up, and I layed back down, my head on a pillow.
"What happened?" I asked once the dizziness subsided. Carl looked at me as he put a bandage on my head and then I could finally make out his face. "Dad had to slam on the breaks, you flew forward and hit the edge of something before passing out. It just happened so fast I couldn't grab you." Carl turned around, reaching behind him, and into the drawer underneath the couches behind him. He pulled out an ice pack and turned back to face me.
"It okay. I should have had my feet on the floor to brace for it. That's what Rick said when we were driving once. To always have your feet on the floor because you never know when he might have to slam on the breaks." I paused, wincing at the coldness of the ice pack. "Why did he slam on the breaks? " I asked.
"Well, I was going to give it to you after the war, but instead I guess she's going into the war with us." Carl stood up and walked out of the RV, leaving me to my lonesome. I sighed, wondering what the hell he could be up to now. I closed my eyes, trying to get used to the coldness on my forehead. Eventually, I was disturbed by someone walking back into the RV. "You're disturbing my peace!" I opened one eye and shot up. There Carl was, holding this beautiful pure white husky, well pure white besides the blood from something.
"She's so beautiful!" I said and I reached up to grab her. I hugged her close to my body. She shivered, and she was really skinny. She needed to eat. "Be gentle. She's weak. We sent Daryl out to go get some deer or something for us, and her to eat." Carl said and sat next to me. The puppy was so small I would guess she's about a few months old, maybe 6. She licked my hand and I giggled. "Does it have a name?" I asked and pet it. "No. It's all yours. Pick one." Carl smiled at me, and the puppy.
"Okay," I paused, thinking. "What about eclipse?" I smiled, shrugging."I love it, " He said smiling, "It's unique because she's a white husky, and most people wouldn't think to name her after a thing that brings darkness." Carl sat next to me, and pet Eclipse. "Kinda like us." I said smiling as Eclipse jumped from my lap to the couch.
"What do you mean? " He asked, confused.
"Most people wouldn't really think we'd be together at first glance. But if you look closer you begin to see we're not like the others. We're special. We sound like we bring darkness but we look like we bring light." Carl hugged me and kissed my forehead, avoiding the cut."You amaze me every day of my life." He whispers as the door to the RV opens. Our heads turn in the direction and Daryl stood there. "Get 'yer asses out there. I didn't bust my ass for nothin' getting a damn deer." Carl and I laughed and I picked up Eclipse. Maybe this road trip would be the best for me. For Carl. For Daryl. For everyone. Maybe, just maybe.
