Faye Dixon
For weeks and weeks, I stayed right by Carl's side. I only left to go to the bathroom but even then I ran there and back. Rick brought me food and would stay for an hour or so before leaving me to his beloved son. "It's been 4 weeks buddy. The doctor said that we can't keep giving you IV fluids, cause others that are hurt to need them. I won't let him take it away. I'll keep you alive. As much as I can. I want to go on a run, get you medicine but I also don't want you to wake up and me not be there. If you were awake I know you'd say something sarcastic." I chuckle and shook my head. I still held Carl's hand, "still blood from the incident on my hand. People told me to wash it but I didn't want to. Because the truth is if you go down Grimes then I will too. And this blood on my hand keeps me from going insane Carl. Knowing that you might just pull through." Talking to Carl, even if he couldn't answer, made dealing with this all so much easier.

"He will make it. Kids tough." Rich said,  walking in with a plate of some green beans and beetroot cookies. "Just like his father." I said before smiling and taking the plate from him. "How long were you standing there?" I asked,  starting to eat a cookie. "I heard just about everything that you said to him. " Rick sighed and took a seat next to me. "You love him don't you?" Rick asked looking amused. "No. I'm just looking out for him as he would have done for me." I denied it quickly,  butterfly's showing up as Rick asked that question. He sighed and shook his head. "Women. They never quite make sense." Rick chuckled before looking at his son.

"He will be okay. I got the feeling he is just fine in your arms. Do what you have to do to save him, no matter what. Can you promise me that?" Rick asked, his tone becoming serious. "I, I um, I promise. But why? Why do I need to protect him?" I suddenly got nervous, worried about what Rick would say next. "Alexandria, hilltop, and the kingdom are going to war with the saviors. Things might get pretty shitty. Most of us are leaving to go start the battle at sundown today. Others that stay are preparing for a fight. Faye, I know this is a huge responsibility but I'm trusting you with my son's life. Can you handle it?" There was a moment of silence.

Can I handle it? Will I fail Rick? What if I die and can't protect him? What if Carl never wakes up?
What if I have to leave Alexandria?  These and tons more questions filled my mind.

"Yes sir. You can count on me. I'll protect him with my life. At all costs." I shot a soft smiled, and turned my head back to Carl. "Thank you, Faye. Honestly." Rick pulled me into a hug before smiling and standing up.  "Oh and one more thing.  When Carl wakes up, if I'm not back, tell him to keep his ass in the house" Rick walks away, leaving me wondering about so many things. Due to me hugging Rick, my hand was no longer in Carl's, and it felt very weird.

"Faye. It's time." Doctor Steven said as he walked in. "No! You can't just take these away from him. This is how he's surviving!" I tried to put myself between Carl and the Doctor. "Useless you show me something that proves he's even near alive, I'm cutting him off the IV. That is Final, Faye." I looked back at Carl before placing my hand in his. "Come on Carl. Please. I can't lose you. Do something! Please, you can do it. Just a little something. Please, Carl. I can't lose you," My breath hitched in my throat, tears welling up. "I love you." I managed, and right after I said that there was a weak but sure squeeze on my hand. Both me and Dr.Steven stood staring at his hand, astonished.

"Very well then." He pulled his gloves off, placing them in his coat pocket. "Two more days. If he does not wake then he will be cut off." I sighed and went to sit next to Carl. "I...I h...ate you.. Dixon." These crystal blue eyes staring back at me almost made me drop to the floor crying. "It's," The Doctor coughed, "It's a miracle." Carl was quick to respond. "Aren't... I a.. Miracle?" Carl spoke, his voice raspy from the lack of water. Even when hurt his jawline was still perfect. Not to mention his hair. "I'll get you some water." The doctor soon left,  leaving the two of us alone.

"Faye..." Carl whispers,  making her stand up,  still crying in shock. "I still," Each word has a major pause in between. "have my blue eyes, right?" I laughed through tears, before wiping some away.  "Yes, they are still baby blue, too.  And they are still eyes. You heard all of it didn't you?"
Carl nodded faintly. "I fucking.. Hate you for not leaving. When my dad...you know.."

~three weeks back ~
Carl Grimes
There was a conversation between my dad and Faye going on. I didn't have the strength to speak at all,  but I could still hear them. It was pitch black,  I couldn't move either.
"Look, Faye. I'm sorry. You should leave. Carl most likely won't wake up,  and I don't want you to be around when he turns."
"HE WON'T FUCKING TURN YOU GOT ME ASSHOLE. I OWN HIM MY LIFE AND I'M NOT JUST GONNA WATCH MY BEST FUCKING FRIEND DIE IN FRONT OF ME!"

"Please, Faye! Go I... I can't let you see him anymore. "
"Hell no. You got some fucking nerve thinking that I'm just gonna give up on him. I'm in it every step of the way. No matter what happens. He's my best friend and I'm not gonna watch him die without being the one next to him."
The sound of footsteps could be heard before a hard-hitting sound was.
Did my dad hit her?  If he did I will kill him. No one touches my baby blue eyes...

Faye Dixon
"Did he.. Um-" Carl started but Dr. Steven walked in,  holding a glass of water. "Here Carl. I'll check up on you in two hours tops. Faye, yell if you need anything. " He handed the pink glass cup to Carl before looking at me. I had my arms crossed and lips pressed together. "Get. The. Fuck. Out." I spat pure hate in my eyes toward the doctor.  He quickly nodded before walking out. "What were you saying, Carl?" I asked after Carl finished drinking. "Did my dad ever hit you, you know, when he told you that I was going to die." Carl's voice sounded so upset, it nearly broke my heart. "No, I hit him. After he just walled out. Still came back the next day with food." I laughed slightly. "Oh. I'm glad he didn't hit you." He sighed a sigh of relief. "Why?" I asked,  turning my head to the side.

"Because I am the only person who can lay a finger on my baby blue eyes." He smiled slightly. "Hey, that's my nickname for you!" I said before smiling weekly. "What's wrong? Don't like the taste of your own medicine?" Carl said as he hated the nickname for himself. "It just.. Doesn't sound right. That's all." I shrugged my shoulder. "Why doesn't it?  You have blue eyes too." He smiled defensively. "I'd rather have you call me.." I stopped talking after that,  not finishing my sentence. I looked at my hands. "What?" Carl asked and I think the whole world would know he was smirking.

I'd rather have you call me yours
