2nd book in the 'Wings of the Crystal' Series
Cactus is a Crystal Dragonet, but has this power that no one wants. Firescales. Catching everything she touches isn't very fun. Once she's returned from her journey, everyone seems to fear he...
As Cactus backed up, eyes dilated and breath shaky, the Monster dog got up and all of the heads started barking and lashing out. "Cactus, we HAVE to go!" Shouted Stargazer. Cactus stood there, basically frozen, watching the creature. As Rain and Stargazer turned and ran down the hallway, the chain snapped. They were free. Cactus finally got her body back, and turned and ran, using her wings to flap and speed her up. The creature bounced off the walls and ran like a wolf, the four-headed dog monster growling and barking. As Cactus turned, the dog was too quick and ran into the cave wall beside it, scrambling to its feet. It gave Cactus an advantage to catch up to the others. As Cactus and Rain ran out of the Kingdom, they met up with Solar and Akira. "run, go go go!" They both shouted. They went to fly, but Akira stopped them. "Where's Stargazer?" They all turned, seeing the four headed dog walk out of the cave, snarling. Foam flowed from their jaws as the Others backed up, their back claws touching the edge of the cliff ravine thing.( I forgot what it was Oof)Cactus looked around, but there was no sign of Stargazer. But, out of the corner of her eye, was Stargazer, holding a sharp, large axe. He flung himself into the air, wings and arms outstretched. "WATCH OUT!" With one movement, but felt like it was in slow motion, he outstretched the axe and slammed it into the creatures neck. Black, nasty red blood already came spilling as the creature whined. It fell, already covered in its blood, and slowly whined, until it died painfully. Akira and Solar, oblivious on what happened, stood I shock as it was all just one quick moment to them. Cactus, Rain and StarGazer were all panting. Stargazer left the Axe inside the creatures neck, as he Backed up slowly and stood with the others. They all stood in silence, panting and trembling out of their minds. As soon as they caught their breath, a patrol of NightWings, about 5, ascended from the sky above the Castle and rained down on them. They all landed with a thud in front of the five crystal Dragonets. They looks down at the bloody pool of the Monster and nearly gagged in disbelief. They all held sharp weapons, who knows what they were. But Cactus was furious. The war. She leaped at one of them furiously, knocking the gun like weapons out of their claws. She pressed her claws down on their shoulder, pinning the dragon down. She snarled, her jaw opened and hissing. "You cheaters, YOU CHEATERS! YOU WERE GOING TO USE THOSE MONSTERS IN THEIR ON US! CHEATERS!" She roared, about to blow fire from her mouth. But before she could, she get a sharp pain in her skull as another NightWing knocked it on her. The NightWing then shot her in the neck with it, her vision getting blurry.
She then was out cold.
It was later, somewhere, from what Cactus knew, as she woke up and pitch darkness, laying on itchy grass. She sat up, her claws clinging her head in pain. She had the buzzing, piercing noise in her ears and ringing around her skull. She looked at her neck, and saw a bullet like thing stuck in her neck. She nearly fainted, and her eyes shook. "She's awake!" Someone whispered around her. She noticed four shadows creep up to her. She shook her head, then realizing they were her friends. She looked around, noticing the familiar field she always have noticed. The field of light. The three moons were glittering in the sky, casing a bright white shadow across the ground. "W-where. . What happened?" Cactus said Hoarsely, still trembling. "You were knocked out for the rest of the day," said Solar. "Some NightWing knocked you down. You did great though. He beat your tail but you put up a fight." He said, grinning. Cactus grinned, and tried to stand, but due to the pain in her legs and chest and neck. She collapsed back on the ground, her head banging on the ground. "Are you okay?" "Is it that bullet thingy?" "Do we need to get it out?" Cactus stopped them from asking questions, and spoke huskily. "It'll melt!" And just like that, it melted onto her scales, getting sticky like wine that spilled on her scales. It left a small hole in her scales, for sure, but she felt a lot better, and was able to sit up fully without any pain. Stargazer and solar looked at each other and smiled, before getting up and standing in the middle of the field. They nodded to each other and then jumped up and down multiple times before the sky was filled with glowing, yellow-green fireflies. Cactus awed in amazement. It was so beautiful. Stargazer and Solar sat back down, Akira and Rain sitting besides each other as all the others huddled somewhere near. They all stared up and watched the sky, as they listened to the small crickets and chirps from around them. The green and yellow glowing lights flashed off and on. It was truly amazing. Cactus glared back at Solar who seemed to have this baby blue belt collar around his neck. He looked great in it, but she was afraid she had her heart for someone else. Jackal? Don't think about that now! Cactus noticed her other friend Rain sleeping too, head still hanging in the air. Cactus smiled, before falling asleep with her head still in the air.
