Inside the lines
Perfectly printed
A nuclear family
sitting happily
Boy in blue
He's depressed,
Girl in pink
A perfectionist.
Colour them in
Dad, green.
Add more colour
Mother, red.
Grab black marker
Draw cross.
Flip next page.
A couple.
A young Boy
in love.
An insecure girl
not enough.
Colour her black
taint her.
leave him white
he's pure
It's all lies
She's cheating
but he's oblivious
what love?
Where's the truth.
Next page.
A brown puppy
floppy ears
left on roadside
tied up
no longer wanted
she's unloved
Growing weaker, thinner.
wanting food
becomes fox dinner.
Final page.
A dinner plate
piled high
so one eats
many starve
the edges golden,
prim, primed.
Yet so many
no food
they eat banquets
every. day
Other's eat bones
once, twice
if they're lucky.
Very lucky.
I close the book, put away my markers, and swallow the pills,
Red, Blue, Pink, Green, Black, Brown, White, Golden.
