-Rei's pov-
"Rei?"
I perk up at my name, looking down at Nagisa. The smaller boy is leaning into the crook of my arm, head resting against my chest. Nagisa looks somewhat dull, his bright light dim. Even the way he said my name a heart wrenching cry of sadness. The train ambled its way along their rout, occasional sounds of metal rattling their only company.
We are just coming back home from the relay. I am worried about Makoto-senpai. Ever since Haruka told us on what is happening to him, I've been more cautious on what I say and how I act around him.
"Do you think Makoto knows we love him?" Nagisa is tentative and it makes me uncomfortable about how out of character he is.
"Nagisa... it's not your fault," I squeeze the shoulder my hand was placed on, pulling Nagisa closer to me. I knew where this was leading. Nagisa is beginning to put himself at fault.
"Don't blame yourself, ever. I know perfectly well you show all of us your affection on a daily basis." My cheeks flushed lightly at how sentimental I am getting. Throwing embarrassment out the window, I continue. "He probably doesn't want the help, and most likely thinks he doesn't deserve it, depression does that, but we have to show him otherwise."
"You think it's depression?"
"I know it is. I've studied a lot of psychology books on mental illness. The symptoms..." I stop speaking and sigh, "We have to be there for him."
Nagisa nod, "Of course! Always."
We are silent again. Somewhere along the trip Nagisa dozes off and unlike usual, I coddle him gently.
