Scott returned with a copy of the sheet in one hand and the original laminated one in the other. the latter was slipping out of his grip a little bit, due to the limited flexibility and use of the hand in the cast, where which only the fingers poked out.
"Sweeeeet." Mike dragged the vowel out, making a move towards Scott to get the paper transferred to him. In no time, he skimmed it over and signed it. (With the hand he had his watch on, interestingly enough.) scott gave him the same information that he gave you. His name tag would be available tomorrow. You wondered why you couldn't just get the nametags now. last time it was just a pin with a golden sticker slapped on. Maybe they were upgraded.
Scott quickly ushered you three out the front doors, mumbling something about customers arriving soon. He slammed the doors and left you to stand in the parking lot. Friendly guy.
"So uh, what were you applying for?" Mike asked you. "Maybe we'll be in the same area!"
Day watch, you told him.
"Aw fuck, that's too bad. With the night position taken, I still had enough experience to land the waiter job. Though I don't think experience would matter anyway. Dude didn't even question me at all." --he referred to scott.
"Maybe I'm a child murderer! Who could know, he didn't ask."
You looked at him concerningly.
"Though hey, maybe I dodged a bullet, not being the night guard. I sure have heard some things about it, I can tell you that."
...Did he know about what the animatronics did at night?
"Haha! anyway, if we're lucky we'll be working the same hours. Then we can at least see each other. You seem like a friendly enough coworker."
You shrugged. in your opinion you were an average enough coworker.
And then back to Jeremy, who had simply been standing by while you two talked, rubbing his neck and grinding the toe of his threadbare tennis shoe in to the concrete while he tried to look everywhere but at you.
Both of you waved adieu to mike and set off on foot.
On the way back home, you asked Jeremy what he thought of Mike.
"Uh, I don't-- I don't know." he almost acted as if you were accusing him. "We're not-- we won't see each other at work, anyway, so... It doesn't matter." He hastily dug his hands in to his pockets and stared at his feet, which went one in front of the other as he walked next to you. You didn't think much of his response.
You and mike did, in fact, end up working at the same time. Often he would catch your glance and wink at you as he brought out large pizzas (which were usually bigger than his head) from the kitchen to serve to hungry families with rowdy kids. You would try to wink back when you could.
As you continued to move from station to station, carefully keeping an eye on all of the kids, you spotted Mike on break, sitting at a tall table with many multicolored wads of chewed gum firmly squished on to the bottom as he munched nonchalantly on a slice of pepperoni pizza. (with the pepperonis taken off.) He was staring at the preforming animals on stage with a glassy gaze.
