The clock on the wall ticked to 4:50. You stared at it with tired eyes, and still wearing your clothes from the day before. (Which you had slept in.) You were half asleep, hunched over in the stiff hospital chair. Fritz, meanwhile, was wide awake. It wasn't so easy for him to readily admit it, but he was worried sick for Jeremy.

when you and Fritz had arrived at the pizzeria, he told you to wait outside as he went in to find Jeremy. Soon enough ambulances and police cars were arriving on the scene. At that point you still had no idea what the specifics of what happened to Jeremy were.

Later, in the waiting room of the ER, Fritz told you that, for once, Jeremy actually had to do his job. Someone, presumably a robber, had broken in and tried to steal Freddy. Which, obviously, would turn out to be a huge mistake. Fritz recalled to you that Jeremy said "he wasn't thinking" and "couldn't live with the guilt" if the robber ended up dead and he could have done something about it. When he went to confront the robber, he was shot. Jeremy dragged himself back to the office, purely off adrenaline, and called Fritz. Then he passed out.

When Fritz entered the building, a metallic smell instantaneously attacked his nostrils. It didn't take a detective to see the large pools of blood on the floor, and the trail leading to the office. And Freddy was gone. (No, he was not stolen. Investigation later told that the robber had been stuffed in to a suit, and of course, was killed.) Fritz made his way to the office to find an unconscious Jeremy. He called 911 on the rotary phone.

Fritz was just thankful he didn't have to see the mutilated body of the robber, or else he wouldn't have been able to handle it and thrown up. Not to mention the incredible amount of trauma that would cause.

By 6 o' clock Jeremy had returned from the emergency surgery.

At some point Fritz left to get some crushed ice, and you stayed alone with Jeremy as he still lay asleep in the hospital bed. It was sometime after that point in which Jeremy began to stir. His eyes twitched open and he looked around for a moment, confused. He tried to sit up, propping himself up on his elbows. He glanced at the window before resting his gaze on you.

"Y/N?" he croaked. His throat was dry.

You "mhm?"-ed in reply.

"What... what time is it?"

You read him the clock above his head. 6:34. A.m.

Jeremy paused for a moment. His upper body gave in and he flopped back on to the pillow. A long and guttural groan escaped him. "Ugggggggggggggggggggggh..."

a large bruise covered nearly the entire right half of his face, where he had hit the ground, and the respective eye matched, being all black and blue. the bloodshot optical organ puffed up painfully, and was nearly swollen shut. you winced. you felt bad for being relieved nothing like that had happened to you on the job. sometimes you still dreamt about getting stuffed in to a suit filled with wires and metal bits of all sorts, but you imagined it was nothing compared to jeremy's real trauma of getting shot.

He allowed his eyes to close and he stayed silent for a while. You didn't say anything either.
