Kalani grabbed Isaacs car seat and her keys, to go pick up Yasmin. She sat outside of the school for a couple of seconds before Yasmin emerged from the building, lugging her huge backpack over her shoulder with one hand and a paper in the other.
After strapping her "sister" into her seat, Kalani headed back to the house. Because, Yasmin was the only one in kindergarten that lived in the house, picking her up on the way home was an easy task for Kalani.
-
"So are you getting adopted?" Yasmin asked, sitting on Kalani's bed next to Isaac.
"Yep," she answered simply, not wanting to get into details. SHe knew Yasmin would be sad and wanted to spare her for as long as possible. But, being as nosey as she was, Yasmin needed answers.
"Who?" she asked. Kalani pointed to the posters of Demi and grinned. "You're lying!" Yasmin screamed, waiting for Kalani to pull the gag. Nothing. Excitement welled in the six-year-olds eyes, realizing that Kalani was serious. "Do you think she would take me too?" Yasmin hopefully asked. The sixteen-year-old had no idea, but the worst Demi could say was no, right?
"I'll tell you what, when I go with her tomorrow, I will see how big her house is, then ask. Does that sound good?" Kalani asked. Yasmin nodded really hard and started beaming with a smile.
-
While Kalani was packing, Demi was pacing. She was waiting for Wilmer to get back so that she could tell him a very important message. Demi's hands grew sweaty as Wilmer came into the house.
"Hola Hermosa, I'm here," he called, closing the door behind him.
"Hey, babe. I met with Kalani today," Demi started, "and I just want you to take it easy on her. I saw that when I mentioned you to her, she got nervous. And please don't say anything to scare her. That whole ghetto Spanish thing you do to make kids laugh... don't do it to her." Wilmer rolled his eyes. He loved his ghetto Spanish bit. Maddie always laughed. Now, he had to scope this girl out. Was she going to be good for Demi?
The singer grabbed her wine glass and headed towards her room. "So...are we still having sex? Or is that all you called for?" Wilmer called after her. Demi just giggled and stood at the top of the banister.
"Nope, that it. I have to go get Kalani after school, and you have to shoot tomorrow. I'll see you tomorrow night at dinner, and you can meet her then," Demi smiled. Wilmer smirked and shook his head.
"Alright Hermosa, sleep good," he said. Demi couldn't help but chuckle at his bad grammar. With a sip of her wine, Demi watched as he walked out of the door.
7:08 AM
The next morning Kalani stood at her mirror trying to figure out if she was going to wear what had put on. She had on black leggings, with a creme camisole, burgundy cardigan, and brown sandals. Her hair was curled in and half up, half down style.
I can't wait to go to Central Los Angelos High. I hate my school.
Kalani was about to finish her makeup when her phone rang. "Hello?" She said, not checking the caller id, because of her rush.
"Hey, Kali! What's up?" The girl beamed. Kalani smiled and put it on speaker.
"Hey, Jazmyne. What's up?" She asked. Kalani picked up her phone and took Isaac to the kitchen so she could have breakfast. At the bottom of the stairs, Kalani came to an argument that was making it hard to hear her friend. "Actually Jaz, I'll call you back. Kayde and Izabell won't shut up. I'm gonna be at your house in like 10 minutes, so be ready." Kalani hung up and put Isaac into his car seat. "Yasmin, come on we have to go!" She shouted. Not even 5 minutes later, Yasmin came down the stairs in her oversized backpack.
"I'm ready." Yasmin flashed her award-winning smile and walked out the door with Kalani not far behind.
-
After school, Kalani got in the car with Demi. She gave her car to Jazmyne to take home for her. "How was school?" Demi asked. Kalani smiled and looked forward.
"It was good. I said bye to all of my friends, and teachers, and now I'm ready, but I just feel so bad for Yasmin," Kalani baited with a short glance towards Demi.
"Why is that?" Demi asked. Kalani bit her lip.
"Because, she won't have anyone once I'm gone, and I don't want her to be scared," Kalani kept going. She knew she was pulling Demi in. All she had to do was ask now. "But, she won't be scared if you adopted her too," Kalani asked. "She's a really good kid. All she needs is a mommy to help her in life." Demi sighed and looked at Kalani during a red light.
"I'll have to see. I like the idea of having a teenager and a child, but I don't know," Demi shrugged.
"Please, Demi! I love her like my own sister, and if she doesn't have me she will shut down again," Kalani begged. Demi pulled up to the house and looked over at Kalani.
"I will talk to Meredith and see what I can do," Demi gave in. Kalani screamed out of pure excitement.
"Thank you so much... Mom!" Kalani beamed, taking Isaac out of the car and walking towards the mansion.
"She just called me "Mom". SHE JUST CALLED ME "MOM"!!!" Demi freaked. Once over her moment of joy, Demi calmed down so she could go in the house. This was the best day of her life. By far!
