JAMIE POV
"Darwin introduced the idea of survival of the fittest when..." I peered to my side to see Taehyung staring at me. Embarrassed, I tried to hide my face with my book and tried to focus on the topic.
After a while, I looked again and saw him still looking at me. I put my book down and turned to him.
"Why aren't you doing your homework?" I asked.
"I am!" He said as he pointed down to a chemistry book that was opened to a random page. "I'm just taking a break until 5:05." He said as he pointed at the clock. It's 5:03. I looked back at him.
"Well why are you staring at me?" I asked.
"Because..."
"Tae Oppa?" Someone interrupted. Taehyung and I turned to the girl who now approached him. She had two books in her arms and she was wearing a tennis skirt, a tank top, and had her hair done in braids. She looked at Taehyung with sparkling eyes.
"Oh, hey Janelle." Taehyung said.
"Hi... what are you doing here?" She asked. Well, I guess I'm invisible.
"Just studying with my friend." He said. The girl looked surprised.
"Studying?" She asked. By this time, she looked up and saw me across from him.
"Who are you?" She asked. Her tone was rather stern, so I was a little intimidated.
"Hi, my name is Park Bailey. I'm a new freshman here." I introduced myself. "And you are?"
"Lee Janelle, sophomore." She said. I nodded.
"Nice to meet you." I said.
"What are you doing with Tae Oppa?" She asked with one eyebrow raised.
"Hm? Oh, we're doing homework." I said. She looked kind of... annoyed? What did I do?
"Why don't you ever study with me oppa? You always say you don't have time." She pouted as she turned back to Taehyung. He smiled at her.
"Maybe next time Janelle." He said. She sighed.
"Okay, well, text me later then." She said as she winked at him and walked off. Well... nice meeting you too.
Taehyung turned back to me.
"Girlfriend?" I asked. He shook his head.
"Just some girl I met last year." He said as he shrugged it off.
"She seemed pretty comfortable around you." I mentioned, feeling a bit insecure considering how beautiful she is.
"Doesn't mean I'm comfortable around her. She's got plenty of other guys going after her, I don't need her and she doesn't need me." He said. I nodded. Oh.
"Anyway... oh shoot, it's 5:06... now I can't start until 5:10 ." He said. I sighed.
"Come on, there must be something you have to do." I said.
"Well, I have math that I need help on. Will you help me?" He asked.
"I can try. I'm not that great at math though." I admitted. He smiled sheepishly and got up.
"It's okay, any help is greatly appreciated." He said. With that, he went to go get a math book, and he came back a minute later.
"Okay, now--"
"Tae?" Another voice asked. We turned again in the direction the voice came from. My eyes widened when I saw a handsome boy approaching us.
"Oh, hey Jiminie." Taehyung greeted. His friend turned to me and flashed a heartwarming smile.
"Hi! I'm Jimin. What's your name?" He asked.
"Hi! I'm Bailey. Park Bailey." I managed to say.
"Ooh! My last name is Park too!" He said, offering me a high five. I gladly accepted it.
"Well nice to meet you Bailey! Anyway, Tae what are you doing here?" He asked Taehyung.
"Doing homework! What else do people do at the library?" Taehyung said, sounding defensive. Once again, Jimin looked at him in surprise.
"Since when do you do homework?" Jimin asked. I let a laugh escape from my lips, but covered them quickly.
Taehyung started to blush.
"Y-Yah... just because I don't come to the library doesn't mean I don't do my homework." Taehyung said.
Jimin looked from me to Taehyung before smiling.
"Ohhhh, I see what's going on here. Well, okay Tae I'll leave you to study hard." He said, chuckling. He bid me goodbye and left.
Taehyung shooed his friend away. I gave him a curious look.
"You aren't really a studious person are you?" I asked. "Your friends seem very surprised to see you here."
"No, I am, they're just trying to embarrass me." He said. Hmm...
"Anyway, I need help with this problem." He said, flipping through the pages. When he stopped at a page, he read the problem aloud.
"A boy throws a frisbee at 10 m/s. The frisbee floats one foot from its starting point, then goes down one foot. After 4 seconds, the frisbee stops suddenly when it hits a pretty girl on the head." My eyes suddenly widened. "How many times can the boy who threw the frisbee buy the pretty girl dinner?" He asked, looking up at me and blushing. I myself felt my body temperature rising and my heart thumping against my chest.
"I-I..."
"Oh wait hold on, I think I got this. If you carry the one and substitute the three, then their first dinner date should be tonight at around eight o'clock. Is that right?" He asked. My heart was now racing. I stared at him wide eyed. Is he asking me out on a date?! Me?! And we only knew each other for a few days!
I soon realized that he was waiting for an answer. I cleared my throat. Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh.
"Um... yes that's correct." I said, knowing that I must be as red as a tomato right now. He gave me a huge grin.
"Yay. I have another problem." He said. I took a deep breath to compose myself. "On a phone, there are ten numbers on the keyboard: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, and 0. In a phone number, there are ten numbers. Not all of the numbers on the phone are used in the phone number. Solve for the phone number." He said. He looked really confused. "Ugh, dang it, I can't figure this one out. Can you help me?" He asked as his eyes sparkled. I laughed. Oh he's smooth.
I nodded and picked up his pencil.
"It's the process of elimination." I said. I crossed out the digits not in my number, then wrote out my phone number on his paper. When I finished, he chuckled.
"Man, I'm gonna ace this math test." He said. I laughed.
"Oh I bet you will." I said. I picked up my pencil again and started to read the text, finally feeling less embarrassed and more excited for tonight. I can't believe this just happened.
"So are you not going to do homework? You should get some work done, I heard you have plans at 8, that's less than three hours away." I said. Taehyung turned around, looked at the clock, then turned back to me.
"I'll start at 5:15." He said, resting his chin on his hands as he smiled at me. I looked at the clock and laughed. He's never going to start.
It's 5:12.
