Chapter 27

Brian's POV

Dinner went pretty good. We almost started a food fight and almost got kicked out for it,

which was fun. Other than that, it was pretty normal, besides the fact that we were all dressed up.

We were now at the dance, that had just started, and it was pretty full already. I grabbed

Kate's hand and leaned over to talk in her ear so she could hear. "Wanna dance?"

She smiled and got a little red before shaking her head. "Not right now." I smiled and

nodded before leading her over towards the drinks. Jimmy and Zack pulled Sarah out onto the dance floor and the three of them were already grinding. Matt and Val had followed Kate and I to the drinks and sat in a near by chair.

I picked up two cups and filled them with the punch. When I went to hand Kate her cup she

shook her head. "I don't drink anything at school dances."

I took a drink of mine and I could taste some of the alcohol someone had already slipped in

it. "Why not?"

She laughed a little before answering. "Let's just say Sarah's very interesting when she's

drunk." I took another drink and almost choked on it. She laughed a little while I put my cup in the garbage. "Maybe I shouldn't drink." She laughed more before she pulled me over to Matt and Val.

"Alcohol in the punch already?" Matt furrowed his eyebrows when he asked his question.

"Yupp."

"Damn." Val, who was sitting on Matt's lap, shook her head after her comment and Kate

laughed again.

The song that was playing ended and the DJ talked into the mic. "Alright guys and gals,

who's ready for a slow song?" There were some cheers. "Alright everybody, grab your special guy or girl and get out onto the dance floor." The DJ put on the next song and I smirked.

I stuck my hand out to Kate and  bowed a little. "Would you like to dance?" She raised her

eyebrow at me and I wiggled mine. She laughed and grabbed my hand. I smiled and led her out to dance floor. I placed one hand on her waist while I kept her other hand in mine. She wrapped her free arm around my shoulders and we started to dance.

Kate started looking around. "Do you see Jimmy, Sarah, and Zack anywhere? I wanna see

their attempt at slow dancing." I laughed and looked around. "There." I pointed with the hand that was holding hers. Jimmy and Sarah had their arms wrapped around each other, holding the other really close and they had their eyes closed. "Whoa." I looked at Kate and smiled. She looked up at me before talking. "I hope he kisses her." I laughed, knowing how hard it'd be to convert Sarah.

Kate smiled at me before resting her head against my chest. I let go of her hand and placed it

on her waist. She wrapped both of her arms around my stomach and continued the dancing. "So…" Kate looked up at me to see what I was going to say. "Um… Zack asked me if I was going to rush you… while we were at your house…" Her face went completely red and her mouth gapped open, not sure what to say. "I'm not… I'm not going to rush you, Kate." She closed her mouth and swallowed. "And… I don't know why you would think of that, but I'm not." I took one hand off her waist and brushed her cheek with the back of my fingers. She flinched a little and looked down, embarrassed.

"I'm s- sorry. I…" She trailed off and shook her head. "I don't know why I thought about

it…" She buried her face into my chest. I wrapped my arms around her shoulders and buried my face into her neck and whispered "It's okay" over and over, trying to calm her down. She kept shaking her head so I laid my face into the nap of her neck and waited.
