A Lot had happened that night but eventually morning rose. Cole had woken up about 17 minutes before sunrise. He realized where he was and ran. He didn't want to get attacked by Avery again.
He went back home and then remembered the reason he went out that night. His brother was gone. For all he knew Avery could have killed him to. But he didn't think she did despite the corpse in her closet, he trusted her. Kinda. He trusted her enough to know that she would never do anything like that.
The thing he was still stumped about was what actually happened? How did she end up in the closet? He didn't know if Avery killed her or what.
He was still laying in bed thinking all the thoughts when his alarm clock went off. School. He quickly jumped up and got ready. He couldn't afford to be late.
That was one thing his parents always cared about. It was always about his grades. Now that they're gone he felt that if he did good in school that they could be smiling up above.
Even though he had a feeling that his parents weren't up above. They didn't deserve to be. His parents thought of discipline differently. They thought that if they caused him pain then maybe he would learn something.
Cole's father died from a very sudden heart attack. His mother shortly after from an overdose of Ibuprofen. She had said that she had a terrible headache from his little brother screaming and crying. She complained and complained that it wouldn't go away. She kept taking the pills despite Cole's constant warning that she had taken way too much.
The society didn't care when a child's parents died. They told them to continue their daily life. They got a check in the mail every other week that if spent right would give them just enough supplies to survive.
Cole was headed out the door when he saw a box of brightly colored sugar coated birds. He picked it up and flipped it over to find a note. It read: Tell One Peep About What You Saw And You're Done For. Love,Your Best Friend (are we still at that?) Avery.
Cole threw the box of peeps into the garbage can as he walked out to the street. He was worried he wouldn't catch the trolley in time. He was happy to be going to school because he knew it was the one place that Avery couldn't be.
Avery dropped out of school after her mom died. He dad was never in the picture. She always said that she needed to focus more on Carly than a pointless education.
Cole caught the trolley just in time as the warning bell for departure was going off.
He rode the train and it felt as though all around him was nothing but silence. His own thoughts drowned out the loud small talk between people who were heading to work.
His thoughts weren't normal everyday thoughts. They were him questioning if what had happened that night actually took place. He hoped that it was all a dream. He almost convinced himself that it didn't happen when he realized his brother was still gone. He thought for a second that maybe Avery had taken him. Then he realized that such thoughts were insane.
He trusted Avery enough to know that she wouldn't do something like that to someone he loved so much. Then again she did hide her own mother's dead body if not do it herself.
His mind boggling thoughts were stopped abruptly when someone tapped him on the shoulder. It was the conductor.
"This is your stop son. Everyone else got off the trolley!" The conductor said sounding a bit mad.
Cole hopped off the trolley and ran to the school yard in hopes that he could tell one of his friends the mayhem that went down the previous night.
.-. This was a boring chapter. But whatever. .-.
