The bright sunlight shone through Hailey's thin curtains, as she turned off the first alarm of her senior year. Who doesn't love getting up at 6?

Summer was officially over, and it was time to start school again.

She groggily got out of her bed and went into the bathroom. She splashed cold water on her face to wake up. There was smudged makeup under eyes, she never really could get it all off.

After getting dressed in the perfect outfit she'd picked for the first day of school weeks ago, she went downstairs for breakfast.

Her mom put a plate in front of her and said, "You know, you should walk to school with Luke."

"And why on earth would I do that?" Hailey asked, putting crispy bacon in her mouth, and wondering why her mother would suggest something Hailey would never do.

Luke Hemmings and Hailey Hughes were neighbors. They had been for eleven years. They were good friends from the day they met, that is, until they weren't anymore.

Hailey had new friends now, and was happy. The two had an on-going rivalry since 8th grade. Going back and forth with playful insults every time their paths crossed, whispering to their friends whenever they saw each other, just typical stuff.

"Because you too used to be such good friends!" Hailey's mother exclaimed.

"Yeah when I still had brace face." She sneered. "Thanks for breakfast Mom, I gotta head out. Love you." she grabbed her bag and left.

Walking up to the school, she took a deep breath. Senior year, this was it. Hailey ran up to a crowd of her friends.

"Hey!" She smiled.

"Hey Hailey!" Emma smiled.

"Ready for senior year? We've only been talking about it since 9th grade." Sophia laughed.

"Very ready." She nodded excitedly.

It was the typical outside area of a high school. The different friend groups all talking amongst themselves in separate locations, but occasionally intermingling.

Sophia, Emma, and Hailey had been best friends since 8th grade.

"Don't look now." Emma said, looking over Hailey's shoulder.

She turned around to see none other than Luke, walking up the concrete path with his friends-and bandmates-their band was called 5 Seconds of Summer. The drummer wasn't in high school, so he was missing from the foursome.

Hailey honestly thought they were pretty good. She practically got a front row concert performance from her bedroom every time they practiced at Luke's. It's not like she would ever tell anyone that.

"Hey Hails!" Luke said mockingly, while walking by. He was the only one that called her that, apart from her mother.

"Long time no see Lucas!" Hailey replied in the same tone.

He chewed on his black lip ring for a moment in thought, "Saw you pacing around in your room last night from my window, what's keeping you up? Can't decide what lipstick to wear?"

"No, but maybe you wanna stop looking through my window trying to catch me changing, asshole." Hailey scoffed.

"Don't flatter yourself." Luke and the rest of the seconds of summer walked away.
