As October rolled around and leaves turned orange, Luke driving Hailey to school and brining her coffee seemed to be an everyday thing. Every morning he would play her a new song, and she would love it most mornings.
"What're you playing for me today Hemmings?" Hailey said jumping into the seat next to Luke and immediately sipping her warm coffee. She put her feet on the dashboard and smiled.
Luke looked at her. She was cute. Yes she was incredibly hot, but she was also very adorable. She had the most amazing smile, the kind that made you want to smile. And when he made her laugh, he felt all warm and fuzzy. Like the time Calum made him eat that moldy cheese, except in a good way.
"What're you staring at?" She raised her eyebrows.
"Lip stick. In your teeth." He tried to save himself.
"Oh"
"Anyway Hails, today I'm playing truly great music." Luke smirked and put his hand to the play button on the dashboard. Taylor Swift's Red album blasted through the speaker, specifically We Are Never Ever Ever Getting Back Together.
"OH MY GOD NOOOO" Hailey laughed and yelled.
"YOU CANT DENY YOUR LOVE FOR TSWIFT!" Luke sang along.
"OH YEA I CAN!" Hailey managed to get out in between the bursts of laughter, at watching this 6'4 boy, wearing all black except for a red flannel around his waist, sing along to taylor swift. She hit the pause button. "Let me play you something." She grabbed his phone turned on Bodak Yellow by Cardi B.
Luke shook his head but rapped along. She had forgotten about Luke's secret rapping talent. She'd forgotten how fun he was all together. She missed her best friend, and she was ready to have him back.
The song ended, "I've missed you." She blushed.
Luke couldn't help but smile. He put his eyes back on the road. "Me too."
They paused and just looked at each for a moment. Hailey cleared her throat, "I need to pick out a mask and a dress for the Halloween Masquerade dance, wanna come to the mall after school?"
Luke released from his Hailey-trance, "Wha-Yeah sure."
-
"This store has a stupid name." Luke whines and crossed his arms as Hailey led him into a dress store.
"Shut up you 5 year old." Hailey rolled her eyes. "I'm going with a princess theme. Pretty dress, tiara, fancy mask, the whole shit load."
"Nice." Luke nodded. "Maybe you'll find a prince." Luke raised his eyebrows up and down.
She playfully smacked his arm.
Hailey tried on dresses for hours, literally. It was all worth it for Luke though, he got to see her in every single one. His favorite was a pink strapless dress, with a sparkly top and floor length bottom.
"That one." He said pointing to it.
"I thought I kind of looked like a fat ass cow in that one." Hailey frowned.
"Hails, shut the fuck up. You could never look like a cow. You're fucking gorgeous and skinny. Now buy it you look like a princess." Luke made his point.
"Okay, thanks!" She said excitedly and grabbed the dress.
Hailey stripped back down to put her clothes back on.
"HAILEY PUT SOME GOD DAMN CLOTHES ON." Luke panicked.
"It's nothing you haven't seen before I've know you for 11 years." Hailey laughed.
Luke turned around quickly, he wasn't going to get a fucking boner and ruin the whole thing.
-
"Seriously?? IN THE BACK SEAT OF HIS CAR??" Hailey snorted.
"Hey, deals a deal." Sophia shrugged through laugher.
"So you've been hanging out with Luke lately?" Emma asked. The three girls sat in Hailey's kitchen. "He was all over your snapchat."
"So?" Hailey said defensively. "Doesn't mean anything, we were just hanging out as friends. I've missed having him as my friend."
"Friends?" Sophia giggled.
"Friends-" Hailey's phone buzzed
Jack Sanders:
Hey double H. Wanna meet up for pizza rn?Hailey Hughes:
Course! See you in 20."Hey guys, I gotta go. Jack just asked me to meet up for pizza. Let yourselves out, I'll text you details later!" Hailey blushed and ran out the door.
Emma and Sophia looked at each other.
"Jack?? Should we tell Luke?" Sophia asked.
"No. Don't freak him out. He'll fuck it all up."
-
"Hey Hailey!" Jack waved from a booth.
Hailey smiled and sat across from him. "Did you already order?"
"Yeah. But don't worry I got some garlic bread." Jack said.
"How'd you know it was my favorite?"
"Remember that one time this summer, when we were all at Zack's party, and you got so completely wasted so you me and Emma ended up just sleeping in Zack's pool shed? Then you woke up with the worst hangover ever, and all you wanted was-" Hailey cut him off.
"Garlic bread?" She finished the story. "Yeah it's my go to for everything. I can't believe you remembered that."
"I have a good memory when it comes to good people." Jack said, and Hailey blushed.
Later Jack walked Hailey to her car. "I wanna see you again. I like hanging out with you Hailey. Just the two of us, not everyone wasted at Zack's house." Jack chuckled.
"Sounds good to me." Hailey smiled. He leaned down to kiss her, and she let him.
Maybe Luke was right the other day at the mall, about her finding a prince.
