Prom rolled around and Hailey stood in front of the mirror looking at her dress. It was of course to the floor. The red fabric hung above her sparkly heels. The diamonds (she doubted they were real) that lined the low cut neckline made her green eyes twinkle. She sighed in relief knowing she would finally find out what Lukes surprise is tonight.
She looked up, applying mascara to her already long lashes. There was a knock on the door. She assumed her mom had let them in, when Calum and Emma came running up the stairs.
"OUR LIMO IS HERE." Calum yelled excitedly. "We're supposed to escort you to your prince Luke."
Hailey giggled. "Emma you look so gorgeous." She hugged her. "And Cal you look very handsome, you clean up nice."
Calum blushed and adjusted his tie. "Same to you. NOW LETS GET IN THE LIMO." He ran back down the stairs. The girls laughed and followed him.
Stepping out of the limo when they arrived at the prom was a pretty fun experience. They felt famous. Well the boys pretty much were famous. Over this school year they'd gotten their subscriber count to 3 million. They were so talented. Hailey loved hearing them play.
After stepping inside, she saw the ceiling was draped in twinkling string lights. There was a stage set up for a band. She wondered who would be playing.
She danced with her friends, the boys were no where to be seen. She wondered when Luke would finally appear with his surprise. "Where's Luke?" She turned to Emma.
"Look." She pointed to the stage.
5 seconds of summer stepped out onto the stage taking their places. Luke front and center, Calum to the right, Michael to the left, and Ashton on a platform behind. His ocean blue eyes made eye contact with her emerald green ones, causing him to blush and her to smile.
"Hey we're 5 Seconds of Summer as most of you know." Luke said. "We're gonna play you a song to kick off the prom, it's an original, inspired by someone I love."
The first note of the song played.
You throw me around like your rag doll
And throw me away like your cigarettesEveryone was already vibing when Michael started singing. All the boys joined in for the chorus. She watched the pure passion Luke had when he sang.
Lost in reality
I can feel you in the dark when I fall asleep
All that's in my head are pictures of memories
Words that you said to me
Hey hey, Hailey, won't you save me?Emma turned to Hailey looking for a reaction. Hailey stood, mouth open wide. Was that really her name?
Bittersweet chemistry
I can't escape you anywhere, even in my dreams
All that's in my head are pictures of memories
Words that you said to me
Hey hey, Hailey, won't you save me?After hearing it a second time she was sure it wasn't some mistake. Was the song really about her? She was torn from her thoughts when she heard Lukes voice over the speakers.
Under all the lights in the night sky
You drift away, then you disappear
Counting the days 'til I bring you back
To me, eventually
My strung-out heart needs your angel eyes
They tear me apart and I'm hypnotised
Let's pick up the pieces of whatever's left
Of me, they're yours to keepHailey brought her hands to her mouth in shock, smiling and blushing. Luke watched her, smiling himself, almost messing up the lyrics. Hailey could hear their story in the words.
Hey, hey, Hailey, won't you save me?
After the last note of the song sounded Luke took the mic in his hand.
"Well Hailey...If you couldn't tell that was for you-I uh...I was wondering if you would be my girlfriend? It would be pretty awkward if you said no." Luke chuckled.
Hailey ran to the stage, tears in her eyes. When she stood in front of him she said, "Oh my god Luke."
"So?"
"Yes of course."
"Just kiss me" Luke said, reminding her of the first time they'd kissed. Hailey wrapped her arms around his neck, pressing her lips to his. "I love you." He said, still holding his face to hers.
"I love you more." She replied pressing her lips back to his. By now she realized everyone could hear them in the microphone, but she didn't care. Luke was all hers, she'd waited long enough for it.
When they finally released their lips they saw everyone was clapping. Hailey blushed and buried her face in Lukes shoulder, and he jokingly did one of those royal parade waves.
The four boys stood up and took a bow, they all hugged Hailey at once, earning a laugh.
When they rejoined the crowd the prom continued. Hailey and Luke danced all night, to slow songs to fast songs. When Hailey got tired Luke let her stand on his feet and he did the work, her head rested on his shoulder, his hands tightly gripping her back.
He had her now, he really did.
When the night was finally over, Luke lead Hailey to his car. One hand held her discarded shoes, the other on the small of her back. "So uh, my parents aren't home." He blushed and looked down as he opened the car door for her.
"I guess we better go there." She smirked.
Arriving at Luke's they sat in his room, eating his candy stash. He kept it in the same place he always had, under the mattress. They laid on Lukes bed, Haileys head on his chest. She'd changed into one of his old zeppelin shirts. The dress was beautiful, but not very comfortable.
"I didn't meant anything I said the other night you know. And I didn't mean when I blamed you for the breakup." She sat up on her elbow, turning to face Luke.
The shirt came up her thigh a bit, Luke glanced down, she giggled and playfully smacked him. "I know." He shook his head. "I didn't mean anything I said either. Other than the part about you being amazing." He tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, scanning her up and down. She blushed and then brought her lips to meet his.
Their lips moved in sync. Luke adjusted himself so he was hovering over her, his face just above hers. She could feel his breath.
He smirked, referring to what was about to happen, "You have no idea how long I've wanted THIS"
