Hailey tightened the ponytail on her head as she walked towards her car. She watched as Luke walked out of his house as well .
"What happened to your lip?" Hailey raised an eyebrow.
"Ask your jackass for a boyfriend." That was all he said before closing his car door and leaving.
As the bell signaling fifth period was over rang, Hailey tapped the tall boy in the desk in front of her on the shoulder.
Jack turned around, "yeah Hailey?" He smiled.
"Did you do something to Luke?" She whispered sternly.
"I was sick of him pushing you around...it was a just a punch...and a little toss off his front porch." Jack chuckled looking at his football buddy next to him.
Hailey rolled her eyes, "I told you not to beat him up Jack! He may be being a dick but he's been my friend for years, don't touch him." She said louder.
"Oh come on Hailey. What do you care about that loser, come on." Jack questioned.
"I actually care a lot about that loser." Hailey said, leaving the class.
Outside of the room, an eavesdropping Luke backed away from the doorway as he saw her leaving. So now she cares? She's gotta get herself together.
He watched her storm out of the classroom. She was cute when she was pissed.
The next day was the day before a long weekend. Hailey packed a small bag while on the phone with Emma.
"So this weekend at your cabin, it's gonna be me, you, and sophia right?" Hailey clarified.
"Yeah and calum...and the boys." Emma said, hinting.
"So that means Luke??" Hailey dropped the shirt she was folding. "Now I gotta pack some different clothes damn."
Emma laughed, "You'll look cute in anything. I hope it's okay he's gonna be there."
"Yeah it's fine." She shrugged. "oh my god I forgot to tell you."
"What?"
"Jack tried to beat up Luke."
"I know." Emma nodded. "Calum told me. Jack would've done a lot worse if they hadn't come."
"Fuck. Yeah i'm pissed at him. I haven't spoken to him since yesterday." Hailey shook her head. "I'll see you tomorrow"
"Bye"

Emma pulled up to Haileys house at the crack of dawn and handed her an iced coffee. She smiled and nodded in thanks, shaking the messy bun on the top of her head.
"You gonna be good driving the whole time? Not gonna fall asleep?" Hailey asked.
"Yeah i'll be fine. I made a playlist." Emma said.
About three hours and one gas station stop later, they arrived at the secluded cabin. It was one a large plot of land, with trees creating privacy. The early morning sun reflected on the lake. Small ripples moved the dock that sat on it.
"It's so pretty." Sophia said stepping out of the cars and stretching her arms up groggily.
"This is gonna be so relaxing." Hailey smiled contently. She crossed her arms to protect herself from the cold morning air. Almost on queue, the loud sound of Blink-182 sounded through a car pulling into the driveway behind them.
Ashton stepped out, the musics volume increased, "WEEKEND" he yelled and shut the door once again muffling the music.
Calum casually stepped out of the car and strutted over to his girlfriend. He slipped a hand around her waist and pulled her in, laying a soft kiss on her lips.
Michael got out next still glued to whatever gaming device he was currently using. Luke stood up, removing the ear buds from his ears and neatly wrapped them around his phone. Hailey thought it was almost criminal they'd make such a tall person sit in the back seat. He yawned and adjusted the beanie on his head. She was whipped from her Luke induced trance as her phone rang.
"Hey." Jack spoke.
"Hi." Hailey walked away from the crowd.
"I'm sorry I called Luke a loser. And i'm sorry I busted his lip." Jack said, insincerely.
"You can't go around beating up anyone who pisses me off. It's nice that you care and that you want to defend me, but I specifically asked you not to."
"I'm sorry." He repeated.
"I don't really think you are." Hailey sighed, "I guess it's okay....I'm at Emma's lake house for the weekend so I won't be around that much."
Meanwhile, Luke followed the others inside watching Hailey speak sternly into the phone. He thought about what she had said in class the other day. Her beautiful voice echoed in his head, I actually care about that loser. Okay so maybe the loser part didn't sound that beautiful. It still meant something to him. Maybe he should give her a chance. And hey, maybe she and Jack will break up over him.
Later while Emma and Calum cooked, Luke pulled Hailey aside. Nobody noticed. Ashton, Michael, and Sophia were in a heated argument about what movie they were going to watch.
"Hey Hails. I'm sorry I've been so terrible lately...you don't deserve it." He awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck.
"It's okay Luke." She shrugged.
He opened his arms for a hug with his smug grin. Hailey chuckled and wrapped her arms around his torso. Luke froze for a moment, but then put his long arms around her so his hands met her waist. He wanted it to last forever.
She let go and he was once again met with the cold air.
"And I'm sorry Jack busted your lip open." She said moving her thumb to his lip. She tore it away as soon as she realized what she was doing.
Luke had to contain his sadness at the loss of her touch but said, "It's alright. You're not responsible for what he does."
Hailey shrugged, "I guess"
The two of them walked back in to see that a movie had been settled on. Mean Girls. One of Lukes and everyone's favorites.

On the last night of their little getaway, They sat around a campfire, they finished up what was left of supplies for s'mores as the boys began to set up their instruments.
"You guys want to hear an original or a cover?" Michael asked.
"Both" All three girls nodded.
"What about Lost in Reality?" Ashton suggested.
"NO...uh no we can't play that one yet." Luke said. Haileys name was literally in the song, he wasn't ready to show her how he felt.
"OH YEAH...never mind." Ashton said. "How about Youngblood? That's a good acoustic."
"Sure." They all agreed

Hailey watched Luke as he sang. He was so passionate, it was truly amazing.

As all four of the boys sang the final note of the song, the three girls stood up and applauded. Hailey winked at Luke and he blushed. After Emma gave Calum a little peck, she and Hailey went inside. Luke saw and trailed behind, hoping to talk to Hailey. He was always hoping to talk to Hailey.
As they opened the screen door He heard them mention Jack, so he decided to just eavesdrop from outside.
"So what's happening with Jack after the Luke incident." Emma asked.
"I was actually gonna call him and tell him I forgive him. Everyone deserves a second chance right?" She shrugged
Luke sighed and walked away from the door.
