The air had become somewhat cooler now that is was technically fall. Halloween was rounding the corner rather quickly and I honestly wasn’t too excited for it. Every party that had happened for this past month I skipped. I just sat in my room and did my homework and listened to music. I was horrified to leave my house. Keith had gotten me only once since the day the left me in front of my house but Scott had been around and he pulled Keith off of me and threw him like he was a piece of trash.
I sat outside in the lunch area by myself during third period, thankful that the school security stayed away from that area right before lunch. I knew I shouldn’t have been by myself, but I liked the quiet. I just put my headphones and in and got lost in whatever I was listening to. Today it was Phaelah, some easy listening for a threatening rainy day.
Finally, kids started to flood the lunch area and I waited patiently as my friends made their way over to the table individually. Scott came last with a plate of food and sat down next to me. He sat with us every day since he and Anna had broken up. She just sat at her table with her friends and glared over at him the whole time and I almost wanted to smile over at her and give her a little wink, but I didn’t want to make things worse for him.
The breeze was cool and calming against my face. My marks had faded a bit, and Kirstie’s makeup helped cover the rest. I looked like nothing had happened, but my arms and torso told a different story. I had more cuts on my arm now, but those were easily covered up by wearing long sleeves every day. No one had noticed and I planned on keeping it that way.
Jamie walked out into the lunch area and headed over to our table, sitting on the other side of me. I tensed up and looked at him with angry eyes. “What are you doing here?” Ally snapped at her brother.
“Just wanted to sit with my bestest sister!” He said before placing his plate on the table and sitting down. Ally glared back at him.
Obnoxious little fuck.
“Switch spots with me.” Scott suddenly stood up and let me slide over in his place. He took the seat in between us. Jamie looked at him angrily but Grace distracted us from the situation. She started talking about the party she was going to throw at her house for Halloween, leaving Jamie out of the conversation. I could feel his eyes burning into my skin as we sat there. I started getting nervous and antsy so I got up and left the table, swinging my backpack onto my back and heading back into the building.
In the back of my mind I wanted Scott to follow me so he could hug me and tell me everything was okay, but that didn’t happen. The lunch bell rang and I had to go to class. I hated biology more than anything. I didn’t talk to anyone in there and I sat at one of the desks away from the rest of the class to avoid doing such that. I took out my phone and saw a text from Scott.
Scott: After school. You and me. Let’s take a drive.
I wanted to scream with joy. I bit my bottom lip as I responded.
Mitch: Sounds good to me J
I swallowed and smiled at my seat. The rest of the period I shut out the teacher and fantasized about what was going to happen.
